I want to buy a new pressure barrel and I'm torn between the Rotokeg and the King Keg Top Tap...anyone got any preferences or advice?

I have a king keg and its great. Very easy to use and clean. I've seen loads of posts about folk having issues with seals on the king keg and the lid not seating properly but mine has been fine since day one. If you get one I'd suggest swapping the tap that comes with it for a sparkler tap - much better for controlling the flow etc and gives a nice head.

Thankyou Jonbrew - I also have a youngs one, which I have never has issues with - I think it's all about prep - using vaseline etc

Getting gaskets to seal is has not been a problem for me, a smear of Vaseline, not overtightening fittings and cleaning up any gasket faces before the PB is used has seen seen to that. However my issue with plastic PBs is that they fail due to splits or pinhole leaks which develop. I have had four Youngs PBs in about four years and three have failed. Thats why I have stopped using them.
And to anyone out there thinking of testing your PB on air alone my advice is don't do it. Its risky. If you must pressure test your PB, fill it with water then slowly pressurise the small gas space until you reach the working pressure stamped on the shell. Never exceed that pressure, and preferably increase the pressure in small steps in the last stages of pressurisation. And never modify a PB shell to accept a pressure gauge.

I stopped using plastic barrels due to leakage from the tap or tap seal. Been bottling for a few years but now bought 2 Corny kegs, these are great.
