Happy Weekend all!

Uh, as the title states really! Just curious to see other people’s grain bills with stouts!

Mine is: 60 mins @ 65c
3.5kg Maris otter
500g Oats

after that up to 76c for 20 mins add
250g Chocolate Malt
200g Chocolate Wheat
150g Roasted Barely
100g Cara 60

13g of Magnum @ 60mins

I am still experimenting with RIS, but I use 2% black, 5% chocolate and up to 10% brown malt. Caramalts are for increasing sweetness, next up with 5% Special B and 10% Cara 120 (120 EBC that is).

I'm angling for a brew day next week. Getting a recipe together that's 12% vienna, 10% oats, 8% cara 60, 4% chocolate & 3% roast barley. The rest made up with pale malt. Gonna fwh with magnum for a bu:gu ratio of .5. sound any good?

I do like he idea of adding the roasties towards the end of the mash though, never thought of that. Does it make the grain bill less astringent?

I think that it should be part of the taste. It of course depends if you want to brew something that needs a bit of aging, because that lessens the astringency. What I do have with black malt is that I do find that it adds a bit of ashy aftertaste, that is why I don't use much any more.
