Do I need to boil the liquid malt extract. In the past before I started on AG I didn't and from memory the beer was ok.
Depends what you are using it for, if are are adding hops/extract 'from scratch' then you will be boiling for that bit, so may as well boil.

If you are adding to a kit instead of sugar, then you can just pour in a kettle or two to dissolve it all, and will be OK, but I'd boil up at least briefly to get it to mix better - don't need to boil all 20litres.

What were you thinking of doing it it?
 
Luckily I have two homes one in Warrington where I have a full AG set up and one in Brixham where I use kits but no mash tun or boiler. I would like to do a partial mash but no boiler. So can I get away with steeping the grains and then adding the extract but not boiling? Also the water in Brixham is **** so I've tried bottled water.
 
Hum, I couldn't say - my assumption (and it is just that) is that you'd want to boil after steeping to kill off any nasties that have been hiding in the grain. Doesn't mean you'd need to boil the extract though, just the steeped water - but not my area of specialism!

If you are adding leaf or pellet hops, you will need to boil regardless of process, to get the bitterness (and flavour / aroma) out. You could use pre-isomerised hop extract for bittering and just boil the few litres you steep the grains in, then mix the lot together in your FV like a kit. A hop tea or dry hop can then add hop character
