Hi guys! Did anyone managed to assemble an iSpindel with the PCB v4 without having to had additional weight?
Don't have distilled water at home, but I just finished assembling an iSpindel and the angle with tap water (density 1.0002) is around 52º.

Thanks in advance.

Never mind, just found out I was confusing the tilt and the angle. My tilt is around 52 (angle = 38º) whereas the suggested by the developer is 65º (angle =25º).

Anyone tried to add a Capacitive Touch sensor (TTP223B) to the iSpindle? Does it work through the plastic capsule?

Cheers

@pottsworth I'd be curious to know how many steps are needed to configure and get it running if you get the chance :-)

I did one last weekend and took a load of screen shots, so will wrote a guide at some point.

It’s not too bad, you have to flash the software first, which I believe is straightforward on PC, and isn’t too bad on Mac if you read through the first bit of this thread.

To calibrate I connected my iPad to the ispindel reading tilt, and had my laptop running the calibration website, then dumped ~700g of table sugar into 2.5l of water in a jug (just enough to float the tube off the bottom) which have me around 1.070. I read gravity with a refractometer and Plugged that and tilt day into the website. Then dumped about half the solution out, topped up with water, took another refractometer and tilt measurement, and repeated about 6 times.

The website then gives you the formula to put into the ispindel config page (although you need to replace “x” with “tilt” and add “*” for multiplications.

Then just need to put WiFi details, ubidots key and that formula into the config page and you’re good to go.

Sounds like what I did too. I've then taken gravity readings as normal on my next brew and noted the tilt so I have some values in the real world.

That should actually be a better way than using sugar as it will account for CO2 bubbles from fermentation.

Been using my ispindel for a few months now and it has been an invaluable tool. However the battery is no longer holding charge and I need a replacement. Does anybody know where best to source.
I presume it's just a quick desolder of the connectors and solder on a new one.

Started by latest brew this weekend - a Mangrove Jack Craft Rye IPA. My garage is getting a little cold, so I'm trying to control the temp with the iSpindel.
I've got the iSpindel output talking to Ubidots and firing off webhooks to IFTTT and onwards to Smart Life to control a smart plug/brewing pad combo. I've got it firing events at 21.75C and 22.25C. A PID would pull this right down to maintain an exact temp, but a 0.5C swing and a little overshoot is fine for me!
The Gravity measure is a little high compared to my readings, but I'm mainly looking at a trend here anyway.

How did the mangrove jacks rye ipa turn out
Boy
Ugh the the kit and wanting to hear what people thought of it?

Only reason I ask is I seen a review on partridge kit reviews on YouTube last night and they had a side by side with a bottle and keg and said the keg was much better, I only have pressure barrels but only have one free and also have the Young’s American ipa which I was going to pb

@tommos76 I really like the look of this iSpindel It'll be a great little project would you be able to let me have a shopping list. (I know you are not allowed to sell here so a list would be great)

Thanks acheers.

Hi Tommos76, hope things have settled down now. Managed to build both of the kits of parts you kindly sent me, thanks. One is behaving correctly, but the other one won't reset into HotSpot mode... Would you have another Wemos board spare, so I can swop it out and do some diagnosis? Cheers Tim.

Hi everyone I am really interested in building this project. I have a few questions i hope you don't mind. Does anyone have an address for getting the printed PCB's don't fancy trying bare boards. Also has anyone managed to load and view results using rasp pi and if so what software used. Sorry about all the questions

The PCBs are available from PCB way, but you need to order a few to justify the postage. I’d probably be interested in a few more if you do put an order in.

I haven’t used one with raspberry pi myself (yet), but I believe you can using fermentrack

Hi Pottsworth i was actually thinking that the PCB fitted into a 3d printed sled. Does this one not actually require additional weights to be fitted? also there are no costings on the site do you know the actual cost?
