I thought id put out a bit of the spent grain yesterday for my array of visitors that I get in the garden, of the wing species, and they don`t like it....i`m not sure why, as i`ve put out old oats before and they loved it...any ideas why they wouldn't like it, maybe its too sweet ?

I’ve also tried to leave it for the birds, my guess is all the sugars and good ness have been extracted and so the grain doesn’t appeal to their sense’s. I should imagine they couldn’t eat enough of it to get a decent nett energy return.

If I put it out back for birds they won't touch it - if I take it to the gooses they'll act all mardy then gobble it down like it's a blood sacrifice while screeching at me like I'm a villain for dumping it there.

Don't waste it! Dry, mill and make breadathumb.. (unless you need the eggs,,,,)

I have tried it on the top of the bread, Paul Hollywood recipe, compost and chooks get to share it.

"Grain gone in 60 seconds" Shouldn't that be geeses. ;)

Tried it today, put a bit on the front lawn, the Magpies swooped down and stared at it for a while before getting stuck in. Went out and checked later they had just picked out the flaked corn.

Mine just goes on the compost. I've not seen any birds helping themselves (it's mainly pigeons round here as somebody nearby has a loft).
