Hi,
I'm new to brewing and this forum. So far had two successful brews. Interested in brewing a new England ipa for a next brew.

All recipes from BREWDOG can be found here:

Here is the recipe for hazy jane:

Don't quite understand the times of when you should add the hopp
Add the hops when you start chilling the wort stop when you get to 80c and stand for 20-30 mins. The dry hop i did in 3 stages i divided it up 20% when i pitched the yeast 30% 3 days in then the rest (50%) after fermentation had finished and i didn't use any kettle finnings

Thanks Alside.
So basically this tut

Are there any kits that I could add to to get a similar beer to this guys?

Got a mangrove juicy session ipa fermenting at the minute but want something similar around the 6% mark

I'm a bit of a noob mate so not sure what you mean.
Only done 4 brews from extract kits. Youngs american IPA twice, then mangrove Jack's pils and the juicy session I've got on now. Cant seem to find neipa style kits though

I’ve never done a kit. Do the hops come separately or in the cans of malt extract? If it’s the latter, you can add extra hops after boiling and as dry hops but you’ll have more bitterness from the hops than would be normal in an NEIPA. It would still taste good.

Has Brulosophy done an exbeeriment on reduced mash times and how they affect conversion? I'm sure there's no real reason why an hour is necessary, but is half an hour enough?
There's been a few around as the starch conversion takes place within the first 20 niins.

Extract brewing is using dry or liquid malt extract to make your own wort. Basically you mix the extract with water, then boil for an hour, adding your own hops (at the start for buttering, later for flavour and aroma). You can take this a step forward by soaking some specialty grains for 20 minutes first. The combination of steeped grains and hops gives a huge number of different potential recipes, far more than you’ll find with kits.

For NEIPA - I doubt you will find any kits.

One of the standard elements of NEIPA is unmalted adjuncts (normally oats) in the mash. Most kits are based on just barley liquid malt extract.

You could probably get some way there by finding an IPA kit, and just upping the dry hops, but what you’d miss out on is the thick, oily mouth feel of NEIPA.

To get that you’d need to do an “extract with mini mash” which is a step on from the process I described above. Basically soak some oats with some malted barley for about an hour at 67c in a big pot, then top up with water, add dry malt extract (any maybe some hops) and boil for an hour. Once you’re doing this you’re actually pretty close to doing all grain BIAB.

Thanks for the reply mate. Sounds interesting. I'll have a search for extract mini mash recipes/instructions

Don't suppose anyone has given this ago have they? Apologies if thisnisnin the wrong thread, thought it may come out Jazy Jane like though. At nearly 50 quid would it not be more affordable to pick up an AIPA kit and these grains & hops separately though?

I'm yet to PB a brew, concerned that I wouldnt be able to chill this to the right temperature to serve... my utility sits well to brew at but no way I'm getting the PB in the fridge! Where does everyone else without a converted freezer keep them?!

That does look very expensive for what it is.

I don’t think NEIPA would work in a pb. It’s really sensitive to oxygen so you need a system which you can purge with CO2, so realistically you need kegs.

Did you add hops during boil ?
Did you cool to below 80 deg before hop stand ??
When did you dry hop ??

experience has shown me that it’s near impossible to avoid the dreaded muddy looking beer (oxidation) when brewing a bottled NEIPA style beer. Total co2 control from fermenter to keg is the only way you can guarantee quality.

Agreed. I dread to think of the amount of money I wasted before realising what causing the problems with my hoppy beers. I could only ever get about a week where the beer looked and tasted as it should.

Hi Alside101

I'm wanting to brew this tomorrow. Out of interest... did you do the 25 min mash or 60 (or other?)

Cheers

The recipe on DIY dog states 1g Chinook for ten minutes. I presume that's a typo?
