Help me decide!

Hi all,

New to the forum, and new to brewing. I have just bought a grainfather and can’t wait to brew my first beer. Trouble is I cannot decide what to brew first! I’m after some tried and tested recipe suggestions that will give me a great beer to start me off. Something nice and hoppy and not too strong would be perfect. Thanks

Not a GF user...but I'd keep it simple for now.
Get a copy of the Greg Hughes book...there's loads in there to get you started.

+1 for this. First thing I ever brewed was the bog standard Pale Ale from this book. Really simple and turned out well for a first attempt. Gave me a great first step to get to grips with everything.

Not on a GF though, but still, same principles apply.

What's your favourite beer? Look up the recipe and brew it. Job done.

Have a look at David Heath youtube channel, he uses GF - great source of ideas

100% Pale Malt, any hop you like the sound of and a clean, neutral yeast. Simple recipes always work.

Then on the next brew, add another ingredient to the mix, or swap and change what you have for something else.

Best way to learn what ingredients do IMHO.

You could look on the BrewUK or Malt Miller website and buy an all grain kit for something you like the look of

So I just went hunting for this, I knew I'd posted the recipe somewhere.

It turned out to be a little cracker. Not too hoppy, but very drinkable. The slight fruity notes of the Kolsch yeast were evident (peach?) beneath the grapefruit hit of the cascade. Citra dry hop was good but faded later to make for a rather smooth APA rather than a full bore AIPA.

I'll be brewing it again.

You could easily substitute the summit for any other high alpha US hop. I just used summit a lot for bittering this year because I got it cheap.
