Back when i was really into playing leading manufacturers were just starting to bring out digital guitars via midi ect.
Now out of touch so did these guitars "take off "
Just curious.??????
I'm not exactly in touch myself, but no I don't think they did. Coincidentally though, this morning I saw a guy on YouTube discussing the Jammy Guitar below, which seems to be one of the newest and best ones. Seemed OK but I can't see it replacing the guitar any time soon. I did like the ability to instantly retune at the touch of a button, even emulating f# 8-string tuning which is cool.

When I was looking at musical equipment about 10 years ago there was a lot of technology creeping into musical equipment but wasn't really being adopted by the bigger companies. Fender over complicated their bass electronics ~2006 but went back to the classic design ~2008 as this wasn't a popular move apparently.

On the occasion I still look at guitars but can't see as much "tech" as I used to. I don't think it took off, or maybe I just don't look for it. I think there could be some really good application of it, like programmable multi FX pedals. As in the ability to use python or whatever to change the code on the pedal to really dial in tone.

Well in a rather foolish alcohol-fueled move I ordered this 8 string Ibanez last night o_O

Don't really know what to do with those extra 2 strings but it might be fun finding out!

Well this arrived today, it'll certainly take some getting used to the wide neck but the low F tuning sounds awesome. As soon as I figure out what to do with it I'll get a video posted.
