Dental Floss for Dry Hopping in keg

Ive been searching for unflavoured dental floss to suspend hops in Keg for dry hopping but absolutely everything seems to be mint flavoured. Does anyone know where i can get some that's suitable for suspending dry hops in a keg?

Aye, if you're reeling in a shark!

Fishing line is fairly sturdy. I used some very fine line to suspend my hop cylinder (think it was filled with ground coffee and dark chocolate) and it worked a treat.

You can get plain dental floss from fishing shops....and fishing line...really thick stuff that you couldn't break if you tried.

Yes we use dental floss for hair rigs in fishing. The bacon flavour would be good for fishing.

I always use fishing line, I got a massive spool of 15lb which I dont use for fishing never broke once on me

Hi All

I'm new to cornies, so can I ask ... what do people tie the floss/line to in order to suspend whatever you put you dry-hop in, when you do this? ... I presume it'll be something on the underside of the lid but I don't have an empty/spare keg to look at the underside of the lid of, just now :?:

Some lids have a little hook on the underside. Some do not. I thought they all did until I looked at mine. So I just tied it to the rubber handle of the corny. The line is so fine, I seriously doubt any pressure would escape. But if in doubt, remove the dry hops, re-pressurise and carbonate. Because I wasn't using hops in my hop cylinder, I didn't feel the need to remove it. And I didn't have any issues with the pressure or carbonation levels.

What a cracking idea! Dental floss, or PTFE tape, should be able to suspend the dry hops with the floss/tape trapped by the O-ring.

Mainly for dry hopping in a primed/pressured Corny keg. I've tried cotton and the O-ring fails to seal about it, which I don't doubt will be the same for fishing line. I'm currently using floats (Fermentasaurus ones) but its still a bit of a faff having to open the keg and fish for the float.

Any line will do if you are planning to remove the dry hops before carbonating. If you are planning on leaving something suspended inside for the duration of the keg, that is when I would opt for a fine line. Just to be on the safe side.

A strand of cotton thread (like the stuff you'd use in sewing?) prevented the lid from seating properly?

Oops, just noticed you (@phildo79) posted that line will allow the O-ring to seal. Sorry!

I think mine fail to seal because such low pressures are used (fermenting under pressure, etc). And I did mean I was using cotton sewing thread.

I think you can get a magnetic hook which is used for camping/hanging stuff in tents. It either sticks to a metal surface or you can stick it to the fabric using something magnetic the other side like a modern 2p coin.(they're coated iron!).
Dunno if they're food safe or will sterilise successfully though.
