Hi I'm just about to start out in the world of lager brewing. Don't want to go to bottles so I'm going to try the 5l mini keg way(before going to corny)
I need to get the initial basic kit bought ie fv and the like so has anyone got any ideas on a good first brewing kit to buy ?

Is it proper lager style you are wanting to brew? Or will a close mimic do you?
Proper lager requires temperature control to facilitate the use of lager yeasts and the associated processes.
You can brew pseudo lagers with less control and ale yeasts.

Well I was hoping for proper lager style to be honest as I haven't tried the alternative lol. With the mini kegs I can get them in the fridge with a party tap. What other temp control is required as I can build that if needed.

But I initially also need to buy the kit are those in eBay etc any good for the fv and air locks etc?

You will need a fridge, heater(i.e. greenhouse tube, belt etc) and a temperature controller(Inkbird or similar) and a lot of patience

I take it it takes some time to brew and a bit of tlc on the temperature side. Does sound daunting.....
Can get a fridge and also put a heater in. Got kitchen space to fit a setup like that. Bit it is my first entry into homebrew so it's sounds a pseudo lager maybe a first attempt

Once you have basic kit then as everyone says a fermentation fridge is a must. They are easy to knock up from an old fridge & consistent temperature control will yield the best beers. Lagers are the hardest to brew I think. Good luck with your brewing adventure & don’t give up whatever the results , patience & practice will give you the perfect lager one day. This is one of the best pastimes I have ever got involved with & the community on here are fantastic. Cheers

I meant to add, I would get yourself a high quality kit like the FESTIVAL range they have a New Zealand pilsner which can be fermented at ale temperatures. You can then determine what you like about the flavours etc & then invest in a fermentation fridge & start tweaking kits etc..

I'll give the New Zealand pilsner a go before I get a fridge kitted out cheers
