Overnight mash - 2 stage brew

Due to time constraints, my brew tomorrow (an oatmeal stout) will have to be done in 2 stages with the mash tomorrow evening and the boil early sunday morning.

I am wondering which would be the better plan, or if there is no difference between:

Mash and batch sparge tomorrow night and leave the wort in the boiler overnight before boiling in the morning

OR

Mash in late tomorrow night and leave it in the thermobox mashtun overnight for 7 hours or so, and then batch sparge and boil in the morning?

Is one better than the other?
 
I'd leave it mashing in the tun overnight. If you do collect the wort tonight I'd leave it outside so it's kept cool - wort at room temperature runs the risk of spontaneous fermentation if you haven't cleaned and sanitised the boiler properly- I found that one out the hard way :oops:
 
Ive never sanitized my boiler as when it boils the wort its sterile any way there is a risk of infection but i cant understand how it can ferment with no yeast added???
 
Yep, I agree there's no need to sanitise the boiler unless you are leaving the wort sitting at room temp for a while before you boil.
I have left the boiler sitting full over night a couple of times and once came home to a thick head which smelt, eh, :sick:
I'm not sure whether that was due to a poor cleaning after the previous batch or yeast/nasties in the air, it was a warm Summer day which no doubt played a role.
