Brew the out of date kit?

Or just boil the old yeast for 10 minutes in some cups of water and add it to the brew as nutrient. And use fresher yeast instead for fermentation. 04 or 05 both will do, pending on your preference.
 
Well, I ended up brewing it "as is".

I made a large 2 litre starter to give the yeast the best chance and got a really big slurry to set things in motion.

I must have made some sort of mistake in the boiling or something because it sure is the darkest American Pale Ale I've ever seen.
Seen here alongside some of last year's cider and a bottle of olive oil for colour comparison.

Pretty drinkable though. Reminds me a lot of Guinness original stout

Not sure if this is too off topic, but old hops still retain all of their preservative properties. Their alpha acid has dropped through the floor though, so the bittering effect will be much less.

A couple of years ago I found someone online whose whole business was selling aged hops. They'd buy fresh hops and store them in hessian bags, open to the air, for several years. I think the main use case was lambic beers. I cannot find the website anymore, it was US based if I recall and their product seemed like it was quite high in demand (prices were not cheap and many items "Sold Out". Could be marketing tricks of course).

No way, Jose. That's not an APA. The labels must have got mixed up. Nothing to do with the age of the kit, either.
Glad it turned out a drinkable beer, though.

Three years old that extract probably darkened quite a bit.

If it tastes okay though, that's the main concern.

Definitely doesn't have a pronounced bitterness, you may be on to something there


Yeah tastes fine, wouldn't be to everyone's taste though

Puzzled why they call it a 'Partial Mash' kit though. There is no grain mashing involved just a grain steep and a hop boil.
So its an extract brew which includes a grain steep.

Definitely not a brewing report, but nearly relevant to the OP.

Today, getting ready for "self isolation" I decided to check through the kitchen cupboards to see what we have and discovered that we had the following out of date stuff:
  • Sour Cream Topping 02/2019 (Presumably tasted okay but never tasted it before so binned.)
  • Heinz Honey Mustard 02/2019 (Tasted as expected. Used most of it for supper and binned the rest.)
  • BBQ Sauce & Chipotle Sauce 06/2019 (Unopened but if it tastes okay will use them soon.)
  • Soya Sauce 12/2019 (Not worth worrying about it. Will use when current one empty.)
  • Variety of pulses, rice, couscous and various dried pasta. 10/2018 (earliest) No problem. Will eat as required.
  • Harrissa in tubes and tins. 02/2019 (earliest) Nothing corroded through or leaking so will eat.
There were a few other bit and pieces that were marginally out of date but as they were all dried or tinned goods they weren't worth binning or moving to the front for "Use sooner rather than later!"

I'm glad to say that I didn't find anything as old as the March 2017 posted in the OP, but from the above you may well have gathered that I would definitely have brewed it.

I'm glad that it's turned out okay. If I survive I'm sure I will enjoy my own out of date stuff as well. athumb..
