Hi all I done a muntons hand crafted American style ipa added 500g of spraymalt although it didn't need any extra fermentables it finished and reached expected fg in 13 days which is fairly quick I thought but it is very dark not at all like the colour it shows on website or description it's like a really dark ale is this because of the spraymalt ??I had it 21 d for 1 week then 18.5 for 2nd week did not open lid or disturb in any way

If your 500g DME was light grade it will only add a little colour to the finished product. I use it in 1.5kg quantities in partial mash beers so I know. If your beer is dark its mostly down to the kit LME.

I did a split with an IPA kit, one using the dextrose provided, the other using spraymalt and they spraymalt version killed the hops. Early on the sugar one was much more like an IPA. As time went on and the hops died the spraymalt one was a bit more enjoyable but tasted more like a bitter kit,

So if anyone is considering doing an all spraymalt addition to an IPA kit I'd reign it back to 50/50 with a simpler sugar.

As pointed out, indirectly, there's nowhere to get the color from if it's not already there. I think the only answer is, as above, LME.
Per that color chart, I think it's Lovibond, this beer is still a shade too dark despite every effort. I add most of the dry pale malt extract late and only enough (about 1/3) for hop utilization. You folks consider spray malt to be the same as dry malt extract it looks like? I've got nothing against liquid malt extract but, visibly, you can tell that DME is good-to-go just by observation. With LME, sometimes it's not so obvious until you drink the beer.

So maybe I have a problem because its defo not like the pic above I also done an mangrove Jack's simcoe in the same room so same temps and situation but that kit looks thr buisness no spraymalt involved thank God

If you want an answer to those questions you need to tell us a lot more, e.g what are you brewing, how much DME have you added, yeast used, I could go on.......
I'm brewing a Wilco winter ale kit. i've used the ingredients and yeast as supplied in the kit bit have added 500g Muntons extra dark spray malt. Kept at 20c. OG 1060. 16 litres
Thanks in advance.

Hi Pete, the spraymalt would have increased the original gravity, may not make it to 1014(mine finished at 1016 as standard) with 3kg LME and 500g dme its only a 6g yeast pack so may struggle. The Winter Ale is great as it comes, but let us know how it turns out.

Could i add some extra yeast to help it?

I've just checked and it comes with 11g of yeast not 6g.
Will that amount cope?

Here's a bottle after one week conditioning I always try one to see how they are getting on
no bad taste definitely no infection but would love to know why so dark I know American ale is that colour but the picture and description show completely different beer still has the potential to be a ok batch
