A while back, I bought an AG black IPA kit from THC, and it's been sat in my freezer ever since because I've come to the realisation that I don't actually like IPAs *shrug*

Kit details below...

Anyway, unless anyone has any other brilliant ideas, my plan is to brew as normal, but change the hops to Cascade as per the DIY Dog Zeitgeist clone, then ferment with a lager yeast (MJ Bavarian or S189 or something) to create a pseudo Zeitgeist/Dunkel kinda beer.

Comments? Am I being daft?

Black are ipas very different in taste so you may actually like it.

The brewUK recipe I did yonks ago turned out very yummy.

It may be anathema to most on her, but I really don't like hop forward beer. At all. I really don't like any American beers because the new wave of brewers think more hops = better beer, and it doesn't, in my opinion.

My favourite beers are either dry stouts, German/Bohemian traditional lagers, dunkels and wheat variants and Scottish malty ales.

I've started reducing the amount of hops I put into some of my brews for similar reasons (particularly at the dry hop stage). Whilst I like the occasional super hopped pint, the word here is occasional.

Finally got around to brewing this.

Full volume mash, with 28g of cascade at the start and the same again at 15 minutes then the same again at whirlpool. Filled my chilling cube and had a few litres left to rehydrate the yeast. It's a bit of a shot in the dark, but it'll be beer of some kind I guess IMG_20191121_155948.jpg

I brewed a few hop forward beers for summer and although they got drunk, I've given loads away, like you I prefer stouts and I love scottish malty ales. athumb..

That said I've just brewed 2 Amarillo smash ish ales for early december as my friends prefer hoppy ales....

I don't drink any IPA anything. It's not bad but I like other styles. I probably like Old Ales the best but they take months to get really good so I pass the time drinking Tripels and Quads. Then there is the BA RIS that's right up there with my first choice.
I was making the hop-forward beer for relatives in the past; but now, I only make what I like.
