The Jewish and Arabic dietary rules are very similar and remarkably prescient. They learnt that undercooked pork, shellfish and bottom-scavenging fish could cause food-borne illness. The Kosher rules for food storage and separation were based on knowledge, not superstition. And I'm a staunch Atheist.

The reason I went pescatarian was because of a bout of food poisoning from chicken in my 20's

Food poisoning is possible from any food source but each to their own I say. :coat:

The only suppliment vegans have to take is B12. You can get every other macro and micro nutrient from plant sources. B12 comes from microbes in the soil, rather than meat. Animals get it (which is then passed on to meat eaters) because they eat a lot of dirt along with their feed. Before we were so meticulous about washing fruit and veg humans would have gotten B12 the same way (I bet Clint gets loads of B12 from his polytunnel).
Marmite?

You still havent told me what on earth vegan gains are
He's a vegan bodybuilder/YouTuber/activist who's also a bully, right-wing nut job, and all round terrible human being. You're better off not knowing to be honest.

BTW I'm not suggesting all vegans are like this :D

I made it a goal to eat 3 vegan/vegetarian meals(dinners) per week. I love Indian food, and noticed they have many vegetarian dishes which made it easy to try. The main reason had nothing to do with not liking meat etc...it is just the sheer cost of certain meats these days. Unless I get it on sale, its driving my grocery bill through the roof. Ive been doing it for a couple months now, and can report this. Ive lost about 6 kg. (and I needed to do that) I can honestly say that I have more energy. When I do have meat, I get a nicer cut and really enjoy it. Im probably eating 4-5 vegetarian meals per week and think I will keep this up for awhile yet. It may become the norm...maybe not, but Ive added some excellent recipes to my repertoire and shed a couple un needed kilos, and saved some decent money....so overall, a good choice (for me)

I loved meat but saw an opportunity and went vegan. I told the world about what I was doing. 2cook books later and 2 tv series later I am swimming in cash.

Apart from nuts/seeds whole plant foods are less calorie dense than animal products so you can fill up and lose weight at the same time. Plus as you've found, cheaper too

I to have to say the use of gelatine in chocolate mousse and other deserts is something I want to avoid. proper chocolate mousse does not contain gelatine. So I check the labeling. I also buy Vegetarian products rather than non. Cheese for example, but I do enjoy fish, turkey, chicken and the odd bit of beef & bacon. As for eggs free range always. No-one should claim to own the moral high ground because in a modern life it's impossible to be squeaky clean. :confused.: just try to make the better choice. I know a couple of vegetarians who have meat eating pets, and a vegan friend who wears leather shoes and has leather seats in their car. I don't point out what I see to be strange combination of choices and they don't try to turn me to their way of thinking. That's why we remain good friends. Plus they enjoy a few of my beers ;)

My biggest investment was the time I took to understand how to eat healthy (complex proteins etc) Sure a few pantry items were needed, but it has been a good journey so far.

We wouldn't have survived the last ice age without meat but I suppose we are out of that now, enjoy life its not long enough as it is. Up beat positive nige!!! :confused.::beer1:

What 4 for a quid!! They have never seen meat or are you reffing too the vegan ones...... Don't know about them.

I've been pescatarian for many years and now probably mainly vegan most days.

I did keep Bantams, reared and necked the cockerels for the pot. I also still butcher and cook meat in our restaurant and will happily dispatch and dress fish/lobsters/crab/langoustines and bivalves. I just got bored and turned off from the taste of beef/lamb/pork as I was eating it most days. But it has always been my own decision. My partner scoffs meat, but won't dispatch any seafood. Personal choice and I respect that. That's why it works,,,

My pet hate is the dietary influencers, with social media peer pressure and many current 'faux' dietary obsessions,,,,
a customer asked 'is your chicken organic?' I said, Yes, it was definitely a carbon life life form, like it was living matter,,, She just looked at me,,,, aheadbutt
I just thought go-on ask me was it happy when it was electrocuted and eviscerated. (I did work in slaughterhouses long ago) My chucks were happy - till I stretched their necks 'cos that's what you have to do in the real world. No chilled plastic trays either. (Rant over:oops:)
