So whatever goes through their network the Chinese get a looksee. Easiest way to intercept data.
The CIA figured that out with their datacentres, and Google does the same. All of their buildings look military and are mostly underground, and some even have a compound for the staff.
I bet it is annoying for the US because they wanted their hands on the data instead.

I dont think you can trust any country (or corporation for that matter) with our data. The only way it would be (relatively) safe is if the network was build by a UK company (not that there any capable, I believe)

Nail on the head!
NSA do the 'good thing' and let microsoft know about a massive security flaw in a system that has been there since the inception of windows 7.... or was it always known and the NSA just found out other players now know about it. So close the door quick! How many other flaws are being exploited? Probably quite a few.
And now the US want us all to use yank companies for 5G - Protectionism, check! Government oversight, check! NSA snooping, check! Blackmail all other countries in to banning Huawei, check!

So...it's the masts that emit the 5g...my phone receives the signal..but does not emit 5g. Would a 10 year old phone still receive 5g?

Still waiting for 4G up here in the Highlands. My Huawei modem will light up blue when it does finally arrive.

At the moment I can only get 3G on my network.
Its just about good enough to watch youtube vids on a good day.

Last year a neighbour had trouble with his landline so got a Vodafone modem it was only 2G in this area.
Now that was slow.

Its all the Governments fault,Instead of milking the networks for licence money,The contracts should have been awarded on a best service/coverage basis.
Rather than who could pay the exchequer the most.!!

5G isnt about doing things quickly - although it will - its about bandwidth and connectivity for devices other than just your phone. I regularly find some downloads and connections to be slow, not because of my connection, but because thats how much the source can give at any one time.
It will have the added benefit of potentially giving areas without fibre a connectivity option that beats typical broadband and at decent ranges between masts too. I only have standard copper cable broadband at home - max 20mbs - but if and when we get 5G, I will definitely be going for a 5g router!

Re Nicks90

On my 3G connection rather supprisingly i can get "bursts" of more than 20mbs but thats the exeption rather than the rule.

You are also quite right about end user speed a lot does indeed depend on network and server load.

All I want is a decent signal at home in the large village in which I live in North Sussex. FFS I only live 30 miles from London! I'm with EE and the other networks are worse apparently. I don't want 5G, all I want is 4 or 5 bars on 3G or even 2G so that I don't have to go outside or go upstairs to make my phone useable. Even texts sometimes fail to go.

Why use Chinese technology this government decision make is ****. Why put ourselves in danger. If we use it tell the Chinese to build an assembly plant in the UK.
