Fortunately the weather in the hamlet was just grim but nothing serious. Storm Ciara was worse (in London at least. I found)

It's screwed Worcester. Main bridge closed yesterday and the southern bypass. Had to go the long way round (and deal with a lot of traffic) if you wanted to get to the other side of the Severn.
I'm west of the Severn on the Glos/Worcs border, far enough away not to be flooded but currently cut off by floodwater. 3 of my 4 road options to get back to civilisation are cut off, I can only get east and south by going north-west and picking up the M50. 2007 was worst but this is next. Been a thoroughly wet winter, 4th time the roads have been closed which is unprecedented in the 15 years we've lived out here, the worst winter by far: usually we get cut off once a year, sometimes none. It rained a solid 48hrs last weekend.

Bristol has been pretty much untouched! I'm still cycling 30 km to and from work. It's a bit windy and wet, the fields are flooded, but everything else is going along as normal.

I am based near the forest of dean all week, its been bad around monmouth and the area around Ross, not to bad near me and nothing at home.
I see loads of people bleating on about this on the news but when you look at the films and the like i am not seeing a lot of self help and prior help and wiping of their own backsides. I see a lot of fields flooding and roads blocked, but i see rooads blocked by idiots in cars not because of in sumountable road water. I see fields flooded but i am not seeing clean and tidy ditches, yes the rivers are flooding but they always do that, directly into the big flood plains, but i see houses on the flood plains and i see very little effort put in to protect them
drive to Newham on the A48 and your ten feet away from the river with a flood bank dyke, working well and holding the waters no issues what so ever. strange how we can do decent flood protection systems yet choose not to else where?

Unfortunately, I've seen plenty of people dragging their furniture and belongings to the pavement and then off dump.
The strange thing about the two recent storms is that as well as the places that have flooded in the past, we have seen loads of places that have never flooded in the past now flooded, not just rivers bursting their banks but pure volume of rain running down off the hills.
It's more than a bit worrying as in the past if you have never had a flood you would consider yourself safe, but not any more.

The ones I'm talking about are stone built and well over 120 years old and have never previously flooded, even during the month of almost constant rain that kicked off the Aberfan tragedy.
I agree building timber frame houses on floodplains seems beyond belief.

"The Government has revealed that Britain has taken back control of its fishing waters and hidden them in Shropshire.
A spokesman said, “For too long these French and Spanish fishermen have fished our fish in our waters. Well no more. I’d like to see johnny foreigner try sailing a trawler up to Telford or Shrewsbury. How do you like them Scallops?”
Herefordshire farmer Bill Board told us, “At first I wasn’t sure. I’m a beef farmer but now I’ve got a herd of Mackerel. Once I’d got used to it I realised it’s pretty much the same thing really. And, you don’t have to put your hand up a Mackerels back side like you do with a cow.”
A local councillor told us, “Obviously this is a bit of a departure from the norm but we’re sure people will adapt. People spend a fortune visiting Venice and now it’s possible to sail a gondola from Cardiff to Shrewsbury we expect a tourism boom.”
If the plans are successful then the Government sees no reason why they can’t be rolled out to the rest of the UK. On insider told us that the whole of Wales could be converted to a fishing ground. By 2025 it is expected that the north of England will be turned over to the whaling industry."
