Trump does not have what it takes to deal with the economy or covid so he'll be getting no help with his re-election from either one of those taking a turn for the better. Not to mention his racist handling of the BLM issue.
Trump is a figure head the real men in power is the one's you don't see on t.v
The same with Boris

I suspect that once Trump loses power he'll be in a world of legal trouble, and the GOP will hang him out to dry.

Same with Crazy Uncle Joe.

This lockdown has been a true gift to him and the democrats. If Joe had been out actually campaigning he'd be sticking his foot in his mouth at least once a day. As it is he's safely tucked away in his basement and he has an excuse, lockdown.

Hillabeans being out and about in 2016 where people could see her stumbling and falling didn't help her.

I have to smile.
Folks talking about the next UK General Election and a new leader for the Conservatives.
We are only just over half a year of a potential five year term for this Parliament.
Whether you like it or not, the Conservatives have a whopping 80 odd seat majority in the Commons, and even if they lose a few by-elections along the way will be in no rush to call another election.
And whether Keir Starmer as Leader of the Opposition is a breath of fresh air to some compared to the last incumbent, and the great hope of the left to regain power, it really matters not for a while, its early days yet since a lot can happen in politics and in life in general. For example who would have thought, some 12 months ago, that a virus would nearly bring the world to its knees in a little over three months in the early part of 2020, and continue to have a major impact on all our affairs for the foreseeable future.

I see the "let the poor die because the middle classes are suffering having to fund their care!" folks have arrived then. Yeah, this is why I didn't ask for access to the hidden forum, thought I could avoid reading such open jealousy of people with so little.

That's a nice statement you make there. Care to back it up with some facts?

Without covid I would predict a Trump landslide here's why.
There are a large no of people who will vote for the same side they did last time and nothing would change that and I guesstimate the numbers are similar on both sides so theres only a limited no of people who can alter the results, those with no strong party preference of those who tend not to vote, to appeal to these people you need to have a more moderate/centrist policies. The Democrats seem to have moved to a more extreme far left than ever before which though popular with there core supporters are not going to win swing voters.
No idea what difference covid will make to it all though.

I would broadly agree with what yu are saying @simon12 (as regards large numbers of people who never change the way they vote) but things can change ~ for instance the fall of the 'red wall' in the last UK general election, where longstanding voters of one party switched to another. But I take your point, it's a rare occurrence.

Far left in the US you must be joking, they are more like our Liberal party or the moderate Tories.

I take your point Simon as regards Congressional Democrats, but the Biden/Harris looks pretty moderate Dem to me. What might make things interesting therefore is if they end up winning but still having a somewhat hostile Congress even though it’s nominally their own party.

The "extreme" shift of the Democrats further left doesn't exist; those are GOP talking points, pounded on from the Liar-In-Chief--the same dude who just said the USPS has been losing money for decades (lie). The USPS was profitable until the GOP interfered. Why do you think the GOP wants to privatize it? It's actually a goldmine.
The main issues of Democrats is decades and decades old. Yes, there are a few progressives but even most of their ideas are mainstream anyway.
The party that is unrecognizable from its roots is the Republican party.
45* somehow fooled people. I still don't know how. His goal right now is breeding distrust in our election.

Just sinks my stomach. And the GOP has blocked legislation to combat election interference for months (or years).
The only other thing I'll say is that 45* (the asterisk is for being impeached) could never have pulled off this four-year span of nonsense by himself; the Senate GOP is entirely complicit and, arguably, fully to blame since I don't think 45* has the mental wherewithal to be responsible for his actions.

Well that's one aspect you're wrong on. Elections always boil down to "do we want more of this, or do we want change?", so the "plague on both their houses" voters will generally vote for change. In 2016 Trump was the change, candidate, this time he's not - in 2016 polling suggests the "hate both candidates equally" split 31% in favour of Trump, this time they're splitting around 15% in favour of Biden.

Don't underestimate the personal vote against Clinton either - at a time when the mood was against the political establishment, she was the ultimate establishment figure. Also although she had a lead over Trump at this stage, it was all over the place, ranging from 0-10%, Biden's has been far more stable. And don't forget that she did actually get more votes than Trump, just not in the marginals where she needed them.

And of course we do have Covid - and the economic chaos that comes with it, when Trump's entire pitch has been of the businessman looking after the economy. When the economy's good, people generally want more of the same, when it's bad they want something different.

After two years of media frenzy all that Russian collusion, turned out to be a big nothing burger.
The media in the US are an absolute disgrace in how twisted they are with partisanship.

You believe there was no Russian interference then you've fell for the lies then.

I wonder if the Democrats will be able to keep Biden out of debates against Trump until the election?
The BLM / ANTIFA rioting in democrat controlled cities could scare people into voting Trump.
I think Biden is greatly helped by most of the media in the US. Who play down and cover up his corruption via his son, his mental condition and sexual misconduct allegations. He is just being used by the democrats to become president, then his vice president will take over after a year, when it becomes clear his mental decline makes the job impossible for him.
His family should be looking out for him.
