Is two bottles of wine night every other day too much?

So 14 units per week for the UK and 35 for Spain :confused.:

That is MAD. No wonder they're late for everything and asleep half the day!

I find this all very confusing, Homebrew forum members discouraging drinking. It’s a bit like Buying a parachute but not using it as it could be a risk to your health 😀
I like to think of home brewing as a beer connoisseur’s hobby for people who like a drink in moderation, rather than “Wahey! I brew my own let’s get ****** every night!”

Nowt wrong with saturated fat i have eaten lots over my 67 years, much better than all the processed ***** they eat these days and its tasteless, all that bight red lean meat bloody awful it should be purple and well marbled aged minimum 28 days fried with a generouse knob of proper butter served with chips cooked in beef dripping and some veg of your choice, yep a balanced diet is good for you, as an aside i didn't know anyone growing up who had ibs colitis or crhones now i know a lot

I've developed a beer belly since starting all grain, draw your own conclusions...
But ag52 is on its way and I'm only 18 months in to my journey
Brewing every 10 days or so on average? Good work!

All things in moderation include moderation!

Us homebrewers are in fine fettle both mentally and physically...
Firstly there's all that thinking and calculating the brews we need to get done.
Then...lifting that fv...all that marching back and to from the brew shed... endless arm bending..

When i was working i worked nights for 15 years the look on the postmans face used to kill me i would some mornings be sat there with a pint in hand watching tv he would amble to door and post the letters with a look of confusion, i told him one morning my 8am was his 5pm whiched confused things even more :laugh8::laugh8::beer1:

I've known blokes who drank off nights.
I did it once many years ago where we all piled in a pub at 06:15 for a celebration drink before an 18 day summer break.
Never again 😳.

I've recently gone on permanent nights due to covid 🙄 so only drink on fri sat sun night now.
Before that I'd been on 12hr shifts days/nights, plenty of time off and it would be spent drinking every night.
The night between days and nights also drink.
There were odd occasion I would drink on an off time only to remember I was in work the next day for extra cover shift and have to drive.
Bicycle out and ride 8 miles at 6am sweating like an MP on a lie detector 😳😂.

One good thing on these nights is only drinking 3 nights a week now.
if i was mornings and afternoons I'd be drinking 9 nights straight whilst on afternoon shift.

I'm currently taking a total break from alcohol.Might be permanent- Long story short I was asking myself questions about whether I was drinking too much for a long time, and continued drinking too much. It's got that I don't trust myself to just have one or even four drinks, my "off switch" is unreliable. A massive warning sign is if you drink to comfort yourself, to relax on a daily basis.
So now I've got £50 worth of grain and hops and all this equipment sat around doing nothing, I actually enjoy the process of brewing and it's a great hobby and I've only had positive experiences within the home brewing community both online and in person, but because i let my drinking get away with me I'm probably going to have to leave it all behind me. I've wondered about making some very low alcohol beer for myself but it's still quite triggering. Even a brew day would make me want to sit down after and get steaming drunk.
On the upside I feel much better in myself for taking back some control, much more positive and less ****** off and anxious and less angry, sleep is poor but 4 hours sober sleep seems to equal 6 or 8 hours drunk sleep.

Do what works for you. I cut down by abstaining during Mon to Wed, having a cpl on a Thurs or not at all. Drink what I want Fri and Sat then just a couple on Sunday to ease back into decaf tea and water of an evening. It works for me. As others have remarked, when you do drink, the satisfaction is heightened. And isn’t that a very large part of what our hobby/obsession is about. Good luck with it. I gave myself a good talking to and now the willpower is there.

Differences in recomended units from different countries merely reflects national differences in how they view fermented beverages. In the UK alcohol is viewed as a form of drug. Drugs = bad. So the limit is low. Countries like Spain and Italy view wine etc as perfectly normal foodstuffs so the limits are high.
It all has very little to do with public health.

I used to drink a bottle of wine a night but mostly drink ale now, often 4 pints a night.

We all know it’s probably not OK but among all the other things that will harm us (sun, pollution, global warming, terrorism, tiger?) at least this one gives us some pleasure and on that note I’ll probably continue to drink beer every night.
You missed out Covid 19

Yeah, but it goes in fits and starts. I might do 2 or 3 brews in a week and then nothing for a month. Or one q week for a month and the drop off a bit.
But, my brews generally only produce 30pints/15l instead of the more usual 23l output. Mainly because of my tea urn size.

It always puzzles me with the recommended alcohol limits that they do not have an 'age' relevant section.

I used to regularly down 8 pints as a lad - now at 60 I would reckon a gallon in one session could put me in hospital.

Good luck to you mate,
I've only just started brewing again but already had thoughts of packing in due to over indulgence.

Do what you think is best for your well being and happiness.
👍
