But Boris said yesterday that it was safe for kids to go back to school. He’s going to make an announcement at 8pm.

Every day feels like looking into a magic 8 ball..

I have some sympathy. It's a novel virus, the situation is moving rapidly, and this government has been left up the creek without a paddle thanks to multiple previous governments in the past decade ignoring the threat of pandemic being in the top few items on the risk register. The NHS has been at 'breaking point' every winter for the past few years, seemingly without anyone caring. It was only going to take a particularly nasty flu or norovirus variant to push it beyond that, let alone a novel virus.

On the other hand I worry about the long term damage done to children by closing schools, and the lives that will be lost due to the loss of people's livelihoods thanks to what will ultimately be 12+ months of lockdowns. I wonder whether the long term number of deaths caused by each additional level of lockdown will eclipse those saved in the short term.

These idiots should be given hefty fines for ignoring the rules as a lesson to others.

Coronavirus: Police 'appalled by breaches' at Rivington Pike

Police have criticised the public for "blatant breaches of the Covid rules" at a popular beauty spot in Lancashire.
Sgt Paul Harrison said he was "hugely disappointed" after thousands of people descended on Rivington on Sunday to walk and play in the snow.
Officers conducted a sample check on 25 vehicles, which revealed 90% had travelled from outside of the area.
Mr Harrison warned "fines would be forthcoming" if people continue to ignore coronavirus restrictions.
He confirmed that people had taken journeys from Greater Manchester and Merseyside to Rivington where tier four rules are in place.

Mr Harrison said the force was "appalled and hugely disappointed" that so many people had chosen to ignore restrictions designed to limit the spread of the virus.
He added: "If you need to travel you should stay local - meaning avoiding travelling outside of your village, town or city where you live."
Kim Snape, councillor for Heath Charnock and Rivington ward, added: "We are so lucky to have Rivington on our doorstep in Chorley.
"I understand people's need to exercise and get fresh air particularly at the moment. Sadly we are under tier four restrictions so that means people are to stay local to where they live."

I can understand the call to close schools

However people should know its a disaster to do so. my partner was destitute from it last time and I will be supporting her again if they do it again, shes my bubble so I will do that.. if bubbles are banned.. I will do it anyway. The effect it had on my kids and he son and the ability for us to earn a living and put food on the table.

I do feel a lot of strong opinions on here forget that they live under the same roof as their loved ones and have family who have their back and support. Whilst some of us are trying to cling on to sanity had to spend a lot of time by ourselves trying to earn a living furlough not an option and trying to keep their kids sane as well as try to deal with the gap left in their education and mental health.

I do wonder whether the effects of covid19 will probably kill or ruin the lives of more people than the virus itself..

This virus has already left its mark and will do so for generations to come and its not even in full swing yet.
There is no right or wrong way of dealing with it as we all have different perspectives of life and how we live it but at the moment we all have to deal with it due to our own scenarios and each person is as vulnerable as the next be them a carrier or victim but there has to be a point when we all have to face the fact the we continue living be it how we may. I'm struggling, wife, kids, siblings, mother, inlaws, friends, work colleagues and its a drain on our mental health.
I work with a lot of people and we all cross shifts but our company has put measures in place that help minimise covid cases which helps but the risk is still there and they haven't furloughed anyone.
A work colleague lost his father and brother both to covid and is now taking panic attacks and is not coming back to work as he is petrified.
There is no happy ending here only survival and nature's law is fight for your survival but fight for yourself and not against others as this only makes us bitter and angry and we get nowhere.

Bloody hell, Gerryjo. It sounds like you're having the worst possible time of it. Hang in in the my man. There's no single right way I agree with you, but I think there's a wrong way and that's the one that uncaringly puts others at risk. Hope you've knocked off for the day and are about to pour a pint. I'll have one with you. acheers.

Scots are to be ordered to stay at home amid a fresh Covid-19 lockdown which will see schools remain closed to pupils until February.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said new curbs would be introduced at midnight in a bid to contain the new, faster-spreading strain of the virus.
New laws will require people to stay at home and work from home where possible.
Outdoor gatherings are also to be cut back, with people only allowed to meet one person from one other household.
Places of worship are to be closed, group exercise banned, and schools will largely operate via online and remote learning.
These rules will apply across the Scottish mainland until at least the end of January, and will be kept under review.
Island areas will remain in level three - but Ms Sturgeon said they would be monitored carefully.

A further 1,905 new cases were reported on Monday - with 15% of tests returning a positive result, something Ms Sturgeon said "illustrates the severity and urgency of the situation".
The first minister said she was "more concerned about the situation we face now than I have been at any time since March last year", with the new coronavirus strain now accounting for half of new cases.
And she said a "steeply rising trend of infections" was threatening to put "significant pressure" on NHS services, saying hospitals could breach capacity within three to four weeks.

The new rules - which will be put down in law - mean Scots will only be allowed to leave home for essential purposes, such as shopping for food and medicine, exercise and caring responsibilities.
No limit is to be put on how many times people can go out to exercise, but outdoor meetings are to be limited to a maximum of two people from two households.
Everyone who can work from home will be required to, and people in the "shielding" category are advised not to go in to work at all.
The construction and manufacturing industries will remain open, but Ms Sturgeon said this would be kept under review.
Places of worship are to close, the number of people who can attend weddings is to be cut to five, and funeral wakes will no longer be allowed.

Unfortunately I'm getting ready for my run of four nights but shall certainly have a pint at the weekend 🍻
The uncaring way is wrong to ourselves as we think like that but for those who don't they don't see anything wrong with what they are doing except for those who are just down right hateful sods of which there are a few.

The problem is "no enforcement". Without effective enforcement, many people will ignore the rules.
