    Brewnaldos brewday

Well, I'm not gonna tell you what to do..... but FWIW I've only ever used glass bottles, never had PET ones. In the case of my Helles I put 8 of them in the airing cupboard for a week and they carbed up nicely in that time (N.B. they'd already been bottled for 4 weeks at this point) and more...

    Brewnaldos brewday

Several questions: You used lager yeast, right? (you didn't cheat and use ale yeast?) Do you know what level of carbonation you were aiming for? (i.e. how much sugar did you add?) Where did you leave the bottles to carbonate, and at what temperature roughly? I had similar issues with a Helles...

    matt76's Brewdays

First tasting: AG#38 & AG#39 Porters AG#38 Berkshire Porter ABV = 3.5% SRM = 24 IBU = 25 Colour = Almost black, but bright and clear when held up to the light. Aroma = Faint coffee-chocolate aroma. Taste = Light pilsner-like body and mouthfeel, a world away from the viscous engine oil texture...

Updates: AG#42 "Don't Panic!" Black IPA Gravity down to 1.013 after a week in the FV, will give it at least another week before I dry hop. It tastes good, but quite roasty - maybe I was a little heavy handed with the Chocolate Rye? Really weird, but looking back at my two previous Black IPAs I...

Busy times from home brew shops

Yeah, still the same for me. Also saw similar on Twitter from a guy who ordered on 22nd. I keep checking back on the website but no change in the status.

Busy times from home brew shops

I placed an order with Brew UK on 23rd March which is still showing as "processing". I'm not in a hurry, just kinda thinking hope it's in the line to be sorted at some point. Not sure there's much to be gained by chasing them, better to let them focus on getting the orders out. I hope ;)

Have a go at simple AG

I've been doing 10L-ish BIAB for the last ~18 months - just did AG#42 yesterday Broadly, yeah, sounds like you're in the ballpark. For a 10L brew you can roughly just halve the amounts in Hughes. I typically have a total grain bill of 2.5-3.0kg, so this looks OK. Hop amounts seem reasonable...

AG#42 "Don't Panic" Black IPA A tweaked version of my previous "Chequered Flag" Black IPA, slightly lower strength (should be about 4.8% and), using chocolate rye malt plus a little Carafa 3, and Columbus hops in place of Citra - I think those deep, dank flavours will work well with dark malts...

    New CML yeasts

How strange... Meh, guess it's just one of those things*... I checked again yesterday and it had dropped another point! Not that I'm in a rush... (* Not a CML yeast I know, but I used MJ M44 recently which is apparently a notoriously slow starter - well mine wasn't, it took off like a rocket...

    New CML yeasts

Couple of comments from me - I'll be interested to hear if anyone else has similar observations; As I noted in my brew day thread: - "Pia" seems to keep chugging away and is taking a while to reach FG. I've checked a couple of times when I was certain it was done and each time it's dropped...

    matt76's Brewdays

Thanks athumb.. And I know, I know - the truth is given time they do seem to clear eventually, but the time taken seems to vary so much... My recent Helles (and pseudo Helles) cleared in a few weeks whereas the Märzen and Czech Pils I did last year took literally months. Very odd.

    matt76's Brewdays

Updates: I've mowed the lawn and washed the cars so I'm enjoying one of my AG#37 German Pilsners as I write this - still a bit of chill haze so I'll leave them in the shed as I'm in no hurry, but otherwise a very refreshing beer: AG#40 Friday Club IPA Well the CML "Pia" yeast is taking its...

You're still happy to receive entries though? Point taken and appreciate your comments - nevertheless I was still planning to send something in (I have to go to the post office anyway for something else)

Tea / Spice infuser for hops ?

Yes, I have a thought on this - I use a slightly different approach which I outlined in a different post earlier this evening: https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/dry-hops-filtering.85697/#post-879479

    Dry Hops - Filtering?

I picked up a great tip for this from (I think) @Keruso ... Get yourself a hop spider like this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/323984606140 That goes in your bottling bucket... Your syphon tube goes in the spider... It will filter out all the bits of hop and due to the large surface area...

    matt76's Brewdays

Update: AG#40 Friday Club IPA Gravity check and dry hop - it's down to 1.015. Brewer's Friend reckons 1.013 but the predictions aren't great in my experience when you use high mash temps, plus their database doesn't include the CML "Pia" yeast I used. My gut feeling is it's not gonna go any...
