    Doombar

As others have said, Doom used to be good, but since they got bought by Coors it's essentially become brown tasteless dishwater, the 0% one is truly awful too. I tend to avoid it nowadays and unfortunately that includes cask just because of habit. A pint of Tribute is a much better bet...

    What did you brew today?

Made a Doppelbock over the weekend, went ok but I have definitely found the limit of my mash tun, which then impacted efficiency but (luckily?) I also messed up my liquor measuring so I have 18L in the fermenter at the correct gravity where I was expecting 20. looking like a decent brew though...

Help! have I killed my beer with Chemsan!

I forgot about physics when cold crashing a pilsner and sucked a pint of sanitiser back into my brew, it was a 10L batch and it was noticeable in the beer, but then a pilsner's not got the kind of flavours to bury the taste of my error. Your brew's bigger and chances are has more than Saaz to...

    Steel weight for dry hopping

I just use a teaspoon or steal some marbles off the kids.

    Brewdog miss a marketing opportunity.

Surely they have a taste panel to make sure their products are drinkable? I work in food and we taste every batch before it goes to the warehouse.

    Electric cars.

More a case that a lot of Chinese manufacturers are heavily subsidised by the state so that they can undercut foreign competitors and keep them out of both the local market in China as well as going to other markets and undercutting them there too, forcing them out of business so that everything...

    Electric cars.

What we need is for planners to stipulate that new builds have solar and energy storage. If every new home was mostly self sufficient in power then it takes the pressure off the network to find solutions to variations in generation and consumption. Eg a mate of mine has solar, a power bank in...

    Has anybody used Temu?

I've used Aliexpress and they're pretty much the same thing. Only small purchases with a "don't gamble with what you can't afford to lose" mantra in case what turns up is different to what I ordered. That said, all been ok so far.

    What did you brew today?

Brewed a Kolsch yesterday, all went to plan and it certainly looked good when it went into the fermenter. Forgot to charge my iSpindel though so am flying blind on progress, will check up on it later to make sure it's started but am sure it'll be fine and I'm planning on leaving it a couple of...

    Vegans

Well that's one person off the invite list to my next BBQ! If that letter's real then whoever 'Sarah, Wayne & Kids' are could do with some serious help as they obviously have some issues they need to deal with, my sympathies are firmly with 'Kylie' as they have to endure this neighbour on a...

    Ultra processed food

Not denying that, but we could do a lot more with seasonal produce. But why does the chicken in your meal-deal sandwich need to be from Thailand? That's because the consumer is demanding value and shareholders demand a return on investment. I work in food and the material cost for ingredients...

    Beer foaming when bottling

+1 for using a sugar solution. When I bottle carb I make up a sugar syrup and dose it in using a Calpol syringe although the main reason was it's a lot easier to get into the bottle.

    Ultra processed food

I've not read the book but can certainly understand it's viewpoint. Surely a meal using local produce is not only better for us, but also better for the planet? None of all the extra's put into food to extend the shelf life, hardly any food miles & full traceability. I've always wondered about...

Stu's Brews x Hook Norton Brew Day!

Went there the day before the stable fire, Mrs M spent the morning with the Shires and I did the tour. Didn't get much of a chance to nose around the pilot kit, is it open fermented too? Also, if you don't take all 737L of beer, what do they do with it?

    Weizen Doppelbock

Certainly will! Although I warn you in advance my German's probably worse than @matt76's. Wise words and advice I'm definitely using - bookmarked it already.

Beer gas primed - any sediment?

I carb in my 20L corny using a regular under-counter fridge, I found that by using a section of narrower gauge pipe I could feed the gas pipe through the drain hole in the back of the fridge and keep tings tidy. This is a dedicated fridge though, it'd be no good if I had to share the fridge with...

Beer gas primed - any sediment?

In terms of the initial transfer from fermenter to keg, I tend to always pick up some sediment along the way which only really impacts the first pint. Are you planning on carbing in the keg? What size are your batches? If you're doing bigger batches then I'd say to carb / settle in the larger...

    Weizen Doppelbock

Thanks guys. Plan is that we're not copying the beer that kicked all this off, but making a proper Weizen Doppelbock, possibly even going for a decoction mash depending on how brave we're feeling. Not done a brew with this much wheat in it thus far, so rice hulls is a good shout to avoid a...

    Saying Hello

Welcome. Sounds like you've been making some real big hitters! I find they develop in the bottle and are much more rounded after a few months. As for head, I find adding a small amount of flaked oats or carapils malt helps.

    Weizen Doppelbock

That is a good question. We're bottling a WCIPA tonight so I'll ask him about it, could be that we shelve this one and have a go at a Kolsch which was originally planned as the next brew (should probably have made it a few months ago to coincide with 'summer'). As for the Doppelbock recipe...
