What are you drinking tonight 2021?

We’re away on holiday and do like to try some of the local brews if we can. This is the power of a good label… I’ve no idea what these taste like but the beers sounded fun ‘This’, ‘That’ and ‘Whatever next’ 😍 from Teme Valley brewery. We just had to pick up all three!

    Anna's Brewdays

I’ve named him Kristoff- which based on My name and it being a bit of a user/fixer upper does work quite well. That’s about as risqué as I dare in my position 😂

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

while making some Moroccan kebabs fir tea tonight I’m enjoying my ‘ a bit of a fixer upper beer’ which I’m calling ‘Kristoff’ - which works on several levels but that possibly only makes sense to those of you with younger children who have sat through Disney movies). So Kristoff is a fresh with...

    Anna's Brewdays

Oh I am super duper chuffed - my a bit of a use up beer that wasn’t temperature controlled (in July Scotland) has been conditioning at 0.3 C for two weeks and it tastes nae afae bad if I may say so myself. Now to work out a name for it. it was an English IPA style and has the bitterness and...

    And in other news...

Wow that looks really quite a large garden room and building it in amongst the trees will have brought its own challenges I guess. Is this going to be a home office?

    And in other news...

I thought it might be nice to have a space for those completely different things that perhaps explain why we've been a bit quiet here or haven't been brewing 😄. Our evening and weekends at home this last few weeks have been spent building a fruit and veg patch at the end of the garden, taking...

    Keeping your cool

Thanks, this was perhaps my biggest worry as I didn't have space for all my kegs in the fridge. Unfortunately brewing has had to take a bit of a back seat recently, as we are going away for a couple of weeks and we had a garden project that had to be completed before we went away. Between that...

Going Large - Today's the Day

That's really good to hear that the fermentation has gone well this time, possibly too well given the krausen. Do you have much control over temperature of the ferment, I've wondered before about the amount of heat that fermentation at larger scale produces and the limited scope to keep it cool...

Posting bottles, Glass, Plastic and all different sizes?

These are the ones I went for in the end, fold together and comfortably fit a couple of 330 bottles with bubble wrap. I think they'll also fit 500ml bottles as well but I'd need to double check that. I've used these to send some beers to several people recently and it certainly simplified...

    Keeping your cool

Oh that's a really good point too, and is reassuring about your experience of not seeing deterioration in bitters and wheat beers. I can envisage a seasonal brewing calendar a bit like a planting one... a good month to brew <beer type>, and a month to be conditioning <beer type> 😊.

    Keeping your cool

I'm realising how annoying this weather is for brewing 🥵. It's far easier to keep something warm than it is to keep it cool, so this hot weather is a bit of a faff with my brew fridge being used to keep things cool rather than being able to leave the beer to condition at room temperature. I do...

That last bit did make me smile 😂

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

This from earlier but I’ve been cooking dinner and then tidying up. This was a well deserved glass after a day working in the garden ( please forgive the dirty finger nails ) a cool richly fragrant NEIPA courtesy of @dan125 - thank you lots ☺.

    An Ankoù brewday:

Yes me too - I do rather like my steel bottling wand - makes life a whole simpler. I’m with @An Ankoù on the benefits of syphons - not a fan of taps at all!.

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

“Chemist” American gin and tonic with blueberries and a slice of lime … and I’m afraid to say I just love this shade of pink (yes I know sometimes I do give way to stereotypes☺). Lots of driving today and just enjoying a bit of quiet this evening x Anna

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

A glass of the lime zest cerveza- which was made with the Mexican lager yeast. I’m not completely convinced so far. It’s had 3 weeks of cold conditioning and the first couple of glasses out of the keg were a wee bit hazy and weren’t as crisp as I’d like. This glass though is much clearer and the...

    Connections

Some others have fed the cable through the drain hole at the back of the fridge, but for me that wasn't an option as it also blocks the drain hole which is needed when the fridge is cold conditioning/cold crashing the beer. Others have fed the thermometer probe through the seal but I don't know...

    Connections

Hi Lisa - this is the one I used, it's splash proof as well which is reassuring: https://www.toolstation.com/dimplex-thermostatic-tubular-heater-ipx4/p17033 I also cut the plug off to be able to put the cable through a hole drilled in the fridge, then wired on a new plug. You can put rubber...

    Efficiency Bump!

It's most likely that the improvement came from the addition of the acidulated malt which will have brought the pH down to where the enzymes are more effective in the mash. We have very few salts in our water here too and the acidity typically requires some adjustment either with an added acid...

What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Oh dear that doesn't sound good. I'm with you on the home brew, once you've tasted decent home brew it is difficult to go back to the standard commercial stuff. I do still reckon there are some very good commercial beers but they are a bit harder to find. I'm a bit of a fan of the SALT brewery...
