What are you drinking tonight 2021?

Second nibble at my Irish stout. maybe a tad under-carbed, but at 21 days in the bottle, still room for slight improvement there, maybe. Tastes great, though! athumb.. I need to try to leave a decent few bottles for Xmas!

    Pringles

I keep reading about using Pringles tubes for posting beer, so I went into Lidl today intending to buy some. I hoped the cheap knock-off versions would be OK, but I went round to the beer aisle, fetched a bottle, and took it over to the biscuit section. Standing them side-by-side, the knock-off...

    Notts beers days

Message me your address, Nottsbeer, and I will send you a bottle of, er, 'vanilla' parsnip stout! I am drinking one right now. It is not so bad!

    I've had a complaint!

Well I don't think I did that at all, but I'll let other posters be the judge of that. As I thought and hoped was obvious, the thread was intended in a light-hearted spirit, And considering it involved a family member, frankly I think your comments are pretty rude.

    I've had a complaint!

Yes, I still think that's the most likely explanation, And as I said, it has lost some of the appealing (to me) freshness it had when young. But as he now liked two out of three, I shan't be cutting him out of my will this time! :D

    Bath

I dunno about the Canon, but Flann O'Brien's is certainly more 'Oirish' than Irish.

    Bath

Yeah, thanks, remember it now. It's a long time since I've been drinking in Bath, but was often there thirty or so years ago!

    I've had a complaint!

I'm certainly not writing off the possibility of an infected bottle. But of course I have no way of verifying that. I still think hop bitterness is the most likely explanation, but I did say to my son, well you probably won't like the parsnip stout, cos that is pretty hoppy. And yet his comment...

    What did you brew today?

Checking my Grey Sheep today, it came in at 1044 OG for 15.7 litres, giving a BHE of 72%. Pleased with that.

    I've had a complaint!

It all comes back to my theory that it's all about weed, really. The American trend to flowery hoppy beers is an attempt to produce a more weed-like buzz than conventional beers, aimed especially at the youth market. Bear in mind weed is legal or quasi-legal in a few States now, with more to...

    Bath

I am sorry to see that the Hat And Feather is no longer going strong in Bath. And the pub across the road from there, whose name I can't bring to mind. Pubs of character are disappearing fast.

    MJ Liberty Bell yeast

OK, further to my post #13 on page 1, I am now drinking one of the Liberty Bell half-batch, my first taste, although I tried the S-04 version some time back. Well it looks like my anti-LB prejudice is set to continue! :D I know others speak highly, but it just doesn't seem to work for me, not...

    What did you brew today?

First brew in four weeks; I don't know why, really. My intention was to do another batch of Gumballhead, but I decided to dump that in favour of another batch of Grey Sheep, as that has been my most successful bitter so far. So far I've made one batch with Verdant dry yeast, and one with Wyeast...

    I've had a complaint!

No, I don't use kegs, I just bottle. I'm not too concerned; it's all the more for me! After all, as i remarked to my mate when he said he didn't like one of my brews much, I don't make beer for your benefit, I make it for mine! I still think the most likely explanation is hop bitterness. The...

    Wyeast 3944

Have to say, every time I see a thread like this, it leads me to think, liquid yeasts seem more trouble than they are worth.

    I've had a complaint!

It could be, but it's something I've never experienced. I just had one earlier, and honestly, I think it's just hop bitterness. It is pretty hoppy, and additionally it's getting on, and has lost much of the citrus tang it had when young. It's still perfectly drinkable for me, but I can see it...

    I've had a complaint!

Been down to London to see my son. I took him a few beers. Reporting back, he tells me, the bitter was fine, but the hazy Citra IPA was undrinkable and contaminated. Of course, I pressed him further, and he said it was "metallic, and a weird sour taste". I have drunk plenty of this batch, and...

What is worth watching on TV?

! Different strokes, eh? I thought it was ludicrously bad! And Richard Madden's got that Thunderbird puppet look about him! 😜 The current series of Shetland on BBC has been very good, I think.
