I had a look at this and it just seemed oddly expensive and didn't have any means of suppressing foam. I'll be interested to see how well it works for you. So far my experience has been that cooling the beer to -3 C works v well to suppress foam.

    Canning Thread

Oops …. I found a really good bargain on gumtree for a steel prep table - just needed to pick it up - Simples she thought 🫢 Turned up in my OH’s ‘Big’ Mini, which turned out to be not even remotely big enough. A very helpful guy watched me look between the boot of the car and the ever so...

LAB Open Competition - (results are in)

Just the one - the Naeb’dy Aboot ‘red’ festbier. To be fair I don’t think it is as nice now as when it was a bit fresher. I think I’ll try another batch this weekend and see if I can give it a cleaner taste.

Yep - esters all over the place, but also contradicting feedback from the two judges. I did brew this one just below the recommended temperature range for the yeast - which was intentional. I’ll try again a bit warmer.

My beer which I thought was lovely scored really poor with lots of flaws identified. Carbonation was good so I’m at a bit of a loss to explain how poorly it did. I am super chuffed that so many of you have done so well, but I can’t help but feel rather down about it. All the points they made...

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

I’ve realised what sort of might fit the bill for height, size and style - a TV stand 😄. There’s lots on Gumtree - just need to make sure they can take the weight and are deep enough. A nice glass, black, chrome type would do nicely, might even be possible to add wheels as a retrofit!

Brewing mistakes you really wish you'd avoided...

Ever thinking...oh you know a double brew day would be a good idea..... nope🤪 Anything to do with brewing that starts with 'This won't take long...' or 'I'm just going to keep it simple....'🙈 and the best one for me personally....trying to carbonate in the bottle like a sodastream using a...

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

Not stylish! Oh dear that could never do 😂. let's be honest here, my perfect support for this would be matt black powder coated perforated steel plate, with a chrome frame and lockable wheels - industrial chic, robust, reliable, cleanable and I can choose where to move it to and it stays solid...

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

That's a good point, I'd prefer mine to be on wheels too - I'm not keen on it being on the floor - I have a 'thing' about food related things being on the floor, just doesn't feel right.

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

A question for all as I'm trying to plan my brewspace a bit better. At present my Klarstein sits on a trolley which works well for the short cable to reach the socket but isn't ideal as it is quite high and I need a step stool to stir or do much with the wort. I've also set up a pulley above it...

    Four Priests Brewery YouTube channel

I work at a building called 'The Gyle' and it had never occurred to me that the name is to do with brewing, gosh that makes me feel even more at home there 😆

    A new **** up.....

I’ve had 2 corny kegs kept at -3 for a couple of weeks without freezing the beer in them, both about 5%. The solutes also reduce the freezing point so it shouldn’t freeze till a fair bit lower than an equivalent water - alcohol mix. I’d guess for some reason your fridge has gone a fair bit colder!

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Time to go large with @The-Engineer-That-Brews Hepeweizen which is a beer style I have no idea at all about. It’s a bit Woah that’s not what I expected - flavour wham from the off. First thought Is old fashioned hard boiled pear drops, Belgian type phenol and esters predominate with creamy...

    Hop plants/rhizomes - growing report

I forgot to post this earlier in the week, my Pioneer hop broke cover a week ago and is looking well ❤️ I’m so chuffed it gets a visit most days to encourage it on 😌

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

A bit late getting started on a beef stew for tonight. This is ‘Oh my darling’ from a brewery just a few miles up the road. This is a clematis and pomegranate sour - which is ok but doesn’t have the fruitiness I’d hoped for.

What are you drinking tonight 2022?

Wow, thank you lots. You and @The-Engineer-That-Brews are the first people to try this version 2 of the Naeb'dy which used a different yeast and a bit of a different balance with the RedX grain. I was worried it didn't have the complexity and slight sweetness of the first version but it's...

    New (and last) Kegerator Build

Are you mounting the taps on a nice shiny chrome font on the worktop? I've wondered about something similar for when we eventually some day build a utility room at the back of the garage.

LAB Open Competition - (results are in)

One entry sent in yesterday with an early evening trip to the post office. We have a brilliant fairly local small shop that has a post office in it that is open late every day 7 days a week, which is brilliant for being able to get there outside normal working hours.
