    Yorkshire Blackout

Yes this is a cracking drop. I'm also a fan of their Yorkshire Lager (it actually tastes of summet!!)

    Bulk ageing turbo cider question.

It will be fine. No danger of funny smells if it's food grade PET.

White grape juice?? can't get it..

My local asda, aldi and lidl always have wgj and rgj in stock. Although i have heard more reports from others struggling to get it. As said stock up when you do find it!!

    Out of date cider kit

Can't see it being a problem. The extract should be fine, it's in a tin for Christ sake! One thing to check is the date on the yeast. If it's out of date (and it probably will be) I'd replace it. Yeast should be fresh as possible and for a minimal outlay it will be worth it.

    Morland - Old Hoppy Hen

Agreed. Tried this a few months back and was a bit underwhelmed. Especially when you consider how nice Golden Hen is. Little bit short of the mark (or name!!)

    Cleaning a Wilcos Pressure Barrel

i just rinse mine with hot water after emptying. Then leave to soak for a few hours with good old fashioned soda crystals. Then rinse again after that. Like bottles, fermenters and owt else that takes some sediment, quick rinsing is the key. Don't worry too much about residual odours. After a...

    Sodastream to carb homebrew lager?

Don't see any reason why not. I know there is a member on here that does this with his turbo cider. It means you can have it (cider) flat or carbonated dependant on mood. No reason why it wouldn't work for lager. Only problem i can see is that i reckon you won't get the same head / retention...

First big batch of extract, TC IPA

Don't worry too much about the OG. You will still be able to tell when fermentation is complete when you have a steady FG reading offer a few days. You just won't be able to calculate your final ABV (no drama really). You've got the right idea with dry hopping. Wait for the initial fermentation...

    Co2 injector question

The cartridge will fully empty once pierced, you cannot add it a bit at a time. The holders with the plastic thread are ****e, I had the same problem with mine. Invest in one with a steel thread (Ballihoo sell them) and you'll have much less bother. You only need to inject Co2 when the pressure...

How to cold condition (no fridge or garage)

Hi Dave I'm a jammy git and have a cellar which stays around 12 degrees (perfect) pretty much all year round. Lots of people seem to keep them outside in a shed or otherwise. Although obviously come this time of year that won't cut the mustard. Your idea sounds feasible but changing the blocks...

    sweetening bottled cider

As mentioned you can use artificial sweetener. 1-2 tsp per bottle depending on how dry you like it. I find much more than that and you start to taste the sweetener a bit too much. As you say, you can vary the amount added over your bottles to see which is best for you. I like it dry!! However i...

    Other fruit juices for TC

You can. But make sure it doesn't have any preservatives (sorbates and the like) as these inhibit the yeast. Also you tend to not get as much flavour from the 'juice drinks'. Your better using from concentrate juice where possible.

    Cleaning bottles

That's the stuff i use. Although if you can get to a poundland/home bargains type establishment it's much cheaper (looking at your location that's probably a no!)

Brewferm Grand Cru-FV & sugar questions

I would definitely get a racking cane/tube setup. They're cheap as chips and even if you normally bottle from the tap it's always good to have these bits of staple kit on stand by. You'll just need to practice to learn how to use one properly!!

Brewferm Grand Cru-FV & sugar questions

You could do this. So long as you're careful racking then the risk of infection is minimal. However if you DO have a second FV i would save the extra effort and just rack in to that and then siphon out in to bottles. Or start it in your tap-less FV and batch prime in your one with a tap when...

Brewferm Grand Cru-FV & sugar questions

Candy sugar is ideal, but people often use golden syrup as an alternative. I don't know about batch priming in the primary. Most dissolve the priming sugar in a wee bit of water and add to the second vessel (which you don't have), then rack your beer on top of it. This ensures the sugar is mixed...

    Dry hopping a kit

As above. Wait for primary fermentation to all but finish, then chuck your hops in (either bagged or loose, either works) to either primary or after racking to secondary. Amounts/time depends on the hops you're using and the result you want. Also your yeasty taste may be coming from drinking too...

    Re: Festival Razorback IPA Review

If you don't have a second FV to start it in (then transfer to your FV with the tap for bottling) your options are limited. You could try to put the strainer over the tap thread on the inside but not sure if it would stay put. Definitely don't attach it externally to the tap/bottler. Hop debris...

    Bottle cleanliness

Always hot rinse (several times) my bottles straight after pouring. They're then stored in a cupboard in the cellar until ready for sanitising. Never had any troubles thus far!! Although i also don't use washing up liquid. I use soda crystals for cleaning my FV's but they always get a good rinse...

    Help needed for first timer

Don't be too worried. A lack of airlock activity doesn't mean it's stopped fermenting. If your using a bucket type FV the lids often don't form an airtight seal and co2 could be escaping there. Leave it another few days and check the gravity again. This will also help the beer clear a bit more...
