    Best Cleaner?

What are we using to soak all the gunk off kegs these days guys? Just used a Fermenter King and the neck is too tight to get my arm into so need something to get rid of all the mess in there.

Fermenter King Junior - Scary Krausen!

Hi guys Been a while since I posted here. Fell off the home brew train for a while but back in the game now. I picked up a fermenter king junior - the idea being to brew and serve from the same vessel for the time being until I pick up another one (out of stock everywhere) but a week after my...

    Drained gas tank

My Co2 cylinder has drained overnight! :? It's been plumbed in fine since back in November when I last swapped tanks but for some reason it's emptied over the space of a day. Clearly a leak, but how do I pinpoint where? I'll have to buy a new tank today but don;t really want that one to drain...

    Doggy Style Pale Ale

This recipe is one from the 'Clone Brews' book so I cannot take any credit for this Flying Dog clone. It is, however, the best pale ale I've brewed and I've made it four or five times now. It's taken over as my 'house' brew that I always have on tap. Well worth a shot if you like the hoppy...

    Leaky Poppet?

One of my corny kegs leaks gas when I disconnect from the keg. I've swapped the O-ring but it still leaks. Could be a leaky poppet? Can you service them or easier just to buy a new set? Cheers :thumb:

    Christmas Homebrew FAIL!

I've spent three months brewing and conditioning two fantastic beers for the big family gathering on Christmas day. A Stone IPA clone and my Bad Santa Christmas beer (7.8% and 6.5% respectively) As an early pressie, I received a gas management board which I set up ion the shed with my corny...

Suggest a suitbale filter set up please!

I've never needed to filter my beer but after a recent experiment with some aged whisky barrel oak chips I've got oak bits about the size of a grain of sand floating around in the secondary. I did tie the chips up in a muslin bag but these particles managed to escape. Any suggestions on the...

Using Oak Whisky Barrel Chips - My Thoughts...

I was recently given a bag of wonderful oak cask chips from Scott at Cooper Workshop up in Ayrshire. They take used whisky casks from all over Scotland, break them down and feed them through “Bertha” their 2001 Heizohack wood chipper. Usually the first thing I would do is throw the chips...

Lager - did I ruin it??

Just kicked off brewing a Brooklyn lager clone on friday night. Pitched the bock lager yeast at the end and then transferred to my fermentation cupboard that is a constant 21 degrees throughout the year. I was pleased with it bubbling away gloriously until I suddenly remembered on sunday night...

Lagering Advice - Bucket or Corny?

I've just fermented a pilsner and want to lager it for 3-4 weeks in the fridge. Would I be better racking into a secondary bucket to lager or directly into a corny keg and then lagering under pressure? And can I get away with lagering for 2 weeks rather than a month? It's my first time...

    Grillstock introduces 'Brewstock'

It was only a matter of time before I shoe-horned my love of beer into my BBQ Festivals! So this year, as well as the main bars, we are putting a craft beer tent into Grillstock Bristol and Grillstock Manchester. We've recruited a very knowledgable local beer-geek to hel us pull it all together...

Brewing pils at a higher fermenting temp

I've never brewed a lager or pils as I have nowhere that is a consistent cool temp to ferment however I do have all the ingredients to hand - lager malt, hallertau hops and a sachet of saflager. Has anyone tried brewing at a higher temp? The spot I use is normally 20 degrees. I have cool...

    bottle cleaning plan

I never bottle because a) I am lazy and b) I have enough corny kegs for my personal consumption! I've giving away some beer this year though (my Bad Santa) and plan to clean the bottles like this: 1 - soak in oxi-clean for 30 mins 2 - quick rinse with warm water 3 - stick in dishwasher on hot...
