    Alcohol free beer

There's not much out there AF that I haven't tried and one I highly rate that isn't mentioned (in detail) on this thread is the Erdinger. It's probably avoided because it's got the word 'Isotonic' stamped on the front and/or the price can be a bit off putting to say the least! Prices range...

    Youngs American IPA

I put one on ~3 weeks ago, purchased through Amazon. Dry hopped it last night, looks fine, smells fine, same as the last one I did few months back. Due to keg it on Monday. Was it black when you chucked the yeast in? Or has it turned black over time?

How many units per week. [POLL]

Nice one Graz, unfortunately for me I found I can still run my 5k's fine (after a few beers the night before!) if I get up early (7ish) and have a couple of black coffee's before hitting the pavements at about 9.30 at the weekends. Wouldn't do it for a Parkrun though as I push myself too hard...

Does Carbonation Pressure = Serving Pressure

I force carbed all my kegs and used a PSI of ~12 for serving everything. Sometimes if I overdid the force carbing I had to let of pressure for a few days until it settled. Just meant it was extra foamy for a bit  I would say it was a bit too much gas for my stouts but it produced a...

How can I up the abv of my wheat beer?

I think you might be too late now mate as the time to catch it would have been at the start with additional DME, dextrose or even can(s) of golden syrup (or all three!). I have read in the past of adding additional fermentables half way through (maybe Brewdog?) but I have zero experience of...

    Cycle Helmets. [POLL]

I always wear a helmet, always have always will. But it should be personal choice for the reasons mentioned above... I have a mate who doesn't even own a helmet, cycles way more than me, never came off even once. I also have a couple of mates who've had possible life saving experiences due...

How many units per week. [POLL]

I'm 6'8", only 8" behind him! Maybe the safe limit increase the taller you are </wishful thinking> :laugh8:

How many units per week. [POLL]

A guy at my work always says when talking about his eating/drinking habits, "Hey, I'm here for a good time, not a long time!"

    Alcohol awareness

I wonder how many folks on here pay attention to their other health markers like BMI (yeah, I know it's not the greatest) and fitness levels. I lost 5 stone (32kg) over 2017 and now have a healthy BMI and can run a sub 30 min 5k at 53yo. I still drink way too much (100+ units a week) but it's...

How many units per week. [POLL]

Poll should have had a lot more options to get a real feel for what's happening out there e.g. more than 50, more than 75 and more than 100 (like the BBC article). I have a close friend (honestly, not me!) who's been 100+ for over 10 years now. Never ever gets drunk and never a drop before...

    Immersion Heater

    Coopers European Lager Review

Sounds like a good idea. If you do that, check them often, one will be v.active and stink of eggs (lager yeast) and then you can move the other one back indoors where it will pick up again with the warmer temps :thumb:

    Coopers European Lager Review

One's a lager yeast (needs cold temps) the other an ale yeast. I've done a Coopers Cerveza with a lager yeast (at the right temp!) and it came out great. The one that got the lager yeast will have a much stronger 'eggy' smell. If you're quick enough, I'd try to identify this one and move it...

Looks like the £2 quid is referring to their own brand kits now being £12 quid instead of £10 quid. Not sure how long it's been like that though...

    Biab starting out help.

Never used a BIAB calc so can't recommend any. Tips though (I BIAB with a 30L Burco and a 40L Buffalo)... Get a steel rule from Asda or somewhere. Take the time to fill it carefully litre by litre and measure from the top (say from 18L) so you know exactly how much liquid you have in it at...

    What did you brew today?

Bit late (yesterday!) but did a double brew all at the same time: Coopers Russian Imperial Stout, as per their website (see sig) which started at 1.084 and HBC American Brown Ale Extract Kit - chucked in a pack of Coopers Brew Enhancer 2 (using up old/surplus stock) to bump the ABV and...

    Wyeast SmackPack - starter needed?

    > I'm thinking of doing this witbier twice: once now; once in October. Two ways you can do this - make a bigger starter and save some (more time / bigger starter required) or just grab some trub off the finished brew for your next starter. I do/done both ways recently. Both ways have worked...

    Wyeast SmackPack - starter needed?

What @IainM said! Delay brewing - do not do a starter with sugar. I've done successful brews pitching fresh liquid yeast but... the one you have is getting on a bit. Get some DME and make a starter with it. It should only set you back 1 week at most. I normally let my starter (no stir...
