    Two turbo questions

Hi all - just a couple of quick questions I started my first turbo last weekend (nice and simple - 4.5l tesco value apple juice, 1 tsp yeast nutrient, 1 packet of young's cider yeast all in a demijohn OG 1.042) and everything seemed to be done 4 days later so I tested with a hydrometer and it...

    Keeping Sterile the Easy Way

I wouldn't exactly classify myself as experienced but I thought I'd share what I do... I use a tupperware pot large enough to hold a trial jar and hydrometer and keep them stored in that in sterilising solution for a couple of weeks at a time - only need to rinse after that (although I've just...

How to make the most of your beer kit

I've found that sometimes it can take a day or two for fermentation to get going. What kit are you doing? I tend to ferment a tiny bit higher too (20-21 degrees celsius) so maybe that's slowing things down a little

    Magnum Apple Cider Secondary Fermentation

Hi all Bottled this up on Saturday after 2 weeks in the primary fv and stuck the bottles in the cupboard under the stairs. Went in there today and noticed that it was only 15-16 degrees... Now as far as I'm aware that's too cold for secondary fermentation isn't it? Second question is now...

    Bottle Brush

Just using regular beer bottles (500ml ones) - not looking forward to cleaning the next lot of 40 bottles using it....

    Bottle Brush

Does anyone else have problems with bottle brushes (I have one of these http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/nylon-bottle-brush.html) getting jammed in the neck of bottles? Last time I was washing out some bottles I was sure that it was permenantly stuck in one...... or that I would shatter the bottle...

    First Brew

I started my first brew on Saturday (Woodfordes Wherry) - took an OG of 1038/1040. Just done a test now (almost exactly 4 days later) and got a gravity of 1010/1012 giving me about 3.8% (which was what I was expecting in all honesty). Just a quick question - assuming that the...

    Conditioning Temperature

Hmmm.... No cellar either! Again, might get in trouble for digging up garden to make a cellar! (tempting though - less grass to mow...) looks like once it's conditioned I'll just bring it back indoors and try to find the coolest place possible to store it - at least 16 degrees is a bit below...

    Conditioning Temperature

That sounds very good! However much I might like one, I don't really have the space at the minute... A question for those without a kegerator - where do you store your beer indoors to keep it at a decent temperature for drinking? (also I may possibly get in trouble if I move all our food out of...

    Conditioning Temperature

Hi Neil - thanks for the responses (and patience!) - Would you then bring it back indoors when its ready to drink? Just I don't fancy dragging my ass out to the shed every time I fancy a beer! If so where do you keep it then? Cheers again George

    Conditioning Temperature

oh - I meant conditioning it at that temperature, not fermenting at that temperature... When you say 'somewhere colder' how cold do you mean? Would it not condition properly at that temperature? GK

    Conditioning Temperature

Hi all I'm about to begin my first brew (woodfordes wherry) at the weekend and was wondering what temperature to condition it at after I put it into the pressure barrel (I think planning ahead is a good idea!) I have a cupboard under the stairs which has no direct sunlight and seems to stay...
