    Bottle carbonation

I haven’t bottled for a while. I split my latest 10 gallon batch between kegs and bottles. The last 6 gallons I added 100 grams of priming sugar, kegged 3 gallons and bottled the last 3 gallons. The keg has primed just fine, but the bottles are kind of flat. Not sure why. Been in bottles for...

    Which brand of faucet tap?

Hi I need a faucet for a corny keg I've just bought. There seem to be a few to choose from. Is there much difference in quality between brands. Any recommendations. I'm looking to attach it straight onto the disconnect. Thanks in advance.

    Cornelius gas

Just bought a 19 Ltr, AEB. It has not tap or gas connects. I have a couple of s30 gas bottles. Not sure which way to go. I’ve seen mini regulator that malt killer does that can connect to s30 bottle. Or should I forget them and get a larger bottle like the BOC 2kg ones and a different regulator...

    Dry Hopping

I’ve been successfully all grain brewing for a few years now. I generally make the same basic IPA style beer. The one thing I’ve never really achieved is that really hoppy flavour. My later batch is a 10 gallon brew. It’s nearly ready to barrel and I’ve added 100g of mosaic pellets in a bag a...

    Chronicle Fermenter

Been looking at SS Brewtech Chronicals and it’s got me wondering. I know in the US many people re rack the beer after the first few days into a fresh carboid and allow it to carry on fermenting. I’ve never really understood why. In the UK most people Homebrew with a plastic bucket, as do I...

    Over full keg?

Just filled a couple of kegs with 8 gallons of very strong pale ale. One of the kegs is a 5 gallon one and I've ended up with a bit more beer than i anticipated so its a lot nearer the top than I've ever filled before. Its got a pressure release valve on the cap. Any problems here? Thanks

Evening Just made a batch of IPA starting gravity about 1070. Theres about 30 litres, maybe a little more as my FV has no markings. Using US 05. Should I use one or 2 sachets. Sachet says will do up to 30 litres. Don't want to be over or under!

    Pressure barrel filling

Just made a bit of a generous 5 gallon batch of IPA. I have filled my plastic barrel without the usual headroom, leaving only 3 or 4 inches. Any problem with this? Don't want a barrel bomb in the house!

    Liquid loss

This may sound like a daft question, but.... I am losing too much liquid during my boil. Today I was brewing a pale ale. 7kg of Maris grain. I produced 7 gallons prior to boil. Using my new 10 gallon boil pan and 7.5 kw propane ring and a 90 minute boil. I ended up with just over 5 gallons...

    Gas burner recomendations

Evening all I am looking to get a new boil pan (75ltr) and gas boiler ring so I can move out of the kitchen and into my garage. I am off to the USA in a couple of weeks and was thinking of picking up a Blichmann or Edelmetall propane burner. Anyone have any experience of these? Would I need...

    Temperature control

I have a brew belt and heating tray. I find these tend to heat things up a bit too much. I am looking for a device whereby I could plug one in and have a tempature sensor in the wort that switched then heater on and off. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Wort loss to hops.

I am brewing using a Brewpaks 32ltr stainless pot. Is m using lots of hops loose in the pan. I am losing a lot of liquid as I am not managing to recover it from the hops. I ended up with just 4 gallons from a target of 5 on my last brew. Any tips? I don't want to use hop bags. Maybe fitting a...

    Spillage!

I have just spent the last 3 hours cleaning 5 gallons of my finest IPA (full of expensive hops) of my kitchen floor. I was about to syphon into my bottling bucket and thought it might be easier to tilt the bucket with something propped under it. I turned my back for a second and away it went...

    Raising mash temp

On the last few brews I have done, I have taken to running off a good size pan of liquor and raising the temp to about 70 degrees on the stove top. I do this at about 30 minutes and 60 minutes. Then run it back into the mash tun. This keeps the mash at the target temp of 65 degrees and seem to...
