What piece of equipment has become invaluable that you wouldn’t expect?

actually, the best piece of kit that has been invaluable to me is the flask and magnetic stirrer. i can't make effective starters without them since i switched to using live yeasts about 9 months ago.

Going to Swap to a Corny Keg

i have bottled the brew i did 3 weeks ago. i got 2 x 19l kegs and 19 bottles out of it. in these tough times of social restriction and high consumption of beer it seemed silly to waste it. i have another 50 litre IPA batch in the FC and got another 50l Lime Hefeweizen brew day planned in 3...

Going to Swap to a Corny Keg

That's pretty good actually! I had to pay a £70 odd deposit on the tank which I have a receipt for so I just take the old one back and get a new one for just the cost of the gas. I've had mine since October and I'm still pretty full, i.e. it says more than 100% 💪

Going to Swap to a Corny Keg

I used these guys. They supply through all sorts of suppliers: https://www.adamsgas.co.uk/product-category/co2-gas-bottles-for-hydroponics-and-plant-growth/ Found a little auto supplier local to me. They got it ordered and in stock the same day.

HELP! Foamy beer... but not the whole keg?!

I will just note that if I run the tap for a few seconds into a big jug until it calms down, it then pours nicely again but if you wait 10 to 15 minutes and pour again, it does it again and you need to get the big jug out

HELP! Foamy beer... but not the whole keg?!

It only ever happens as I say when it gets to the last 3rd of the keg. Whether I go through a keg in a week of if I go through it in 2 months. I have them set around 12 psi I think (just had IPAs on recently which I raised from 10 for an english bitter). Not sure on exact temperature as I dont...

HELP! Foamy beer... but not the whole keg?!

This happens on all 6 kegs though... and they were all brand new AEB kegs as well

    Your Best DIY Equipment?

Call me old fashioned but I don't have a sparge arm. I use 2 x sheets of tin foil and a fold them together making a wide square piece and slide a tea towel underneath it. I then use a kebab skewer to punch lots of really, really small holes in it and then place it on top of my mash so that I...

HELP! Foamy beer... but not the whole keg?!

So this may have been covered by others previously so apologies if this is the case. I have a problem with every single keg I've put on. (Its only 6 kegs, about to put 7 and 8 on this weekened). The last 1/3 of the keg gets very foamy and I have to run some off into a big jug before the foam...

    Brew fridge build

This is a fermenter I haven't cleaner the krausen ring off yet. The top line is 25 litres, rather than the 23 in a standard wilko fermenter. I just wilko fermenters for holding sanitizer

    Brew fridge build

Usually between 23 and 25 litres but I use live ale yeast with a starter. In the past, espescially with kits I found that some dried yeasts can really erupt. I have a fermenter here I can take a picture for you. Hang on...

    Brew fridge build

I used to use 23l wilko fermenters but I have 25l fermenters now and I think that does the trick 😊

Going to Swap to a Corny Keg

In fairness, I went all hell for leather on my switch to kegs. I bought 6 new AEB kegs, 2 secondary regulators, a 6.3kg bottle of gas, a 2nd hand fridge, loads of x-gen line, JC fittings, stop flow line connectikns and flow control taps. I think all in, it cost me about £1200. I know it was a...

Going to Swap to a Corny Keg

I'm lazy so usually throw it away but I do bottle sometimes. I brew AG in 50l batches and use 2 different fermenters with different yeasts and dry hops so I get 2 full kegs and about 6-8 bottles. During these difficult times I dont want to waste them 😊 The taps you get with the kits need...

    Brew fridge build

Thanks @Chippy_Tea - I never have a problem with a blow out though. Not anymore. And i use a chamber to ferment in the garage. So I'm quite glad i dont need to do this 🥳
