Has anyone tried the Crisp Malt recipes ?

Has anyone tried any of the recipes on the Crisp Malt site? Brewing Malt Recipes | Crisp Malt Beer Recipes | The Finest UK Malt I might have a go at the session bitter, although I could struggle getting hold of Flyer hops.

First time bottle conditioning with kveik

I've just bottled my kveik brown ale, fermented at 28C. Do I need to maintain this temperature for the bottle conditioning period, or is room temperature OK ? The beer finished fermenting in 1 week, can I expect it to be carbonated similarly quickly?

    First time with Kveik

Decided to try the CML kveik yeast for the first time, in a brown ale. Inkbird set to 28C. Not had any airlock activity after 2 days, but there is a distinct 'fermentation' aroma in the room. A krausen is forming so I'm not alarmed, not sure how long before I should take a gravity reading.

    Kviek for English brown ale?

I'm due to start a partial mash brown ale in the next week. The current heatwave has me worried as I was going to use S04 yeast and won't be able to keep the fermentation temperature down enough. Any recommendations for a suitable kviek strain to use instead? I use dry yeast so would prefer...

    Equipment For Sale Grain mill

2 roller grain mill for sale. I have attached it to a plywood base plate so it will sit on a bucket. I have used it for about 5 brews. Selling as I now do partial mash and buy pre-crished grain. Prefer pick up from Liverpool area, but could dismantle and send by courier. £25.00

    Sold Swan 20L Urn

This is my 20L Swan boiler modified with a ball valve instead of the stock plastic one. I have done about 20 brews in this and is in good nick. Downsizing to stove-top boils so no longer need it. Prefer pick up as boxing it up for a courier might be a bit difficult. I can deliver in the...

Which type of chocolate malt ?

I've been browsing several recipes for a northern brown ale and they all list chocolate malt as an ingredient. If no type is mentioned do I assume they mean light chocolate rather than the dark variety ?

Orfy's Hobgoblin - Dark or Light Chocolate Malt?

In Orfy's Hobgoblin recipe one of the ingredients is chocolate malt, but it doesn't say if it should be the dark or lighter variety. In my brew calculator I put in the light type but the colour comes out too light, not at all ruby like the real thing. If I switch it to dark chocolate (1200) the...

    Which Coopers stout kit?

I am considering doing this Coopers tweak to the Irish stout kit: English Stout Unfortunately my LHBS is out of stock of this kit. However they do have the Coopers ordinary stout. Would there be much difference between the 2 types or would I be better looking further afield to find the Irish stout?

    Anyone used brew-day.co.uk ?

Good morning brewers, has anyone used brew-day.co.uk for buying ingredients? They work out a bit cheaper than THBC for my recipe, so thought I might give them a try. I usually use Crossmyloof but I need some speciality grains this time that they don't stock.

    Wilko Yeast Nutrient

    Invert sugar in Brewfather?

I have been trying out the free version of Brewfather with a view to using it for my recipes instead of Brewgr. I copied a couple of my old recipes into it, no problem, but one of them uses Invert No.3 brewing sugar. In the standard ingredients list there is no setting I can see for invert...

    Coopers Lager - any tweaks?

I was hoping to start an EKG smash this weekend, but the lhbs closed early so I'm 2kg short of pale malt. I do however have a tin of Cooper's lager so could make that, but have no malt extract. I could mash the small amount of M.O. I do have (about 2.5kg) and add some hop pellets (EKG, first...

    Grain mill

Just taken possession of one of these.... Ordered from AliExpress (£46 delivered) I expected it to take 3-4 weeks to arrive from China, but it came in 9 days! Will build some kind of base to hold it over a bucket then try it on Sunday for a fake lager I'm making (Maris Otter & Nottingham yeast).

    Mash problem?

I'm still getting to grips with my new boiler (tea urn) and the first two BIAB brews have resulted in lower than expected post boil OG, about 10 points down. I am thinking that this is the result of poor mash efficiency. My temperatures have been good, losing 1 degree after 60 minutes, but I...

    Alternatives to lactose ?

Not sure if this is the correct section for this..... Are there any alternatives to lactose for sweetening a 'milk' stout ? Many people (65% of world population) are lactose intolerant, so cannot drink a traditional milk stout. Are there any other non-fermentable sugars that could be used as a...
