    re using yeast

If you say so...whenever I have used S04 the krausen was just bubbles along with protien and a bit of trub..no real creamy yeast to speak of..US05 goes the same way for the first bit of fermentation then the krausen changes to a creamy head...This is yeast

    re using yeast

S04 is a good yeast but is a bottom fermenter, this means that you can only collect yeast post ferment really... Other yeasts you can collect from the top, these are called top fermenting yeasts and can be collected during the fermentation of the beer. Yeasts like WLP001 (US05) and some of...

Bit more update.. I collected some off the Brewers gold and used that in my next brew...The results are outstanding, steady ferment at 19 degrees. Dropped like a brick when finished and left the beer lovely and clear with the smallest amount of finnings.. I bottled some of the origional brew...

putting your brewery in a shed

Right where to start with this one:- 1) you don't necessarily need planning permission unless this is a sizable shed or you are in a conservation area. Different councils have different ideas with this, I was going to convert the garage at home but decided against it 2) you deffo need a...

Ill update you... The ferment has been steady for the last day or so, the BRY 97 has dropped from the original 1041 to 1008, the chiller went on this morning at 8:00 so we will see what happens now, its still very murky at the moment. Early indications are that the beer will be lovely...

Quick update.. This stuff set off like a rocket...Ive got over 4" of Krausen...its top cropping for England. down to 1030 from 1041 in 24 hours at 19 degrees. the literature says BRY97 attenuates to between 75% and 80%. The forums reckons that it drops like a stone.

Bit of an experiment..I've read about this yeast and thought that I would give it a go, I am due to brew attempt number 4 of a single hop brew along the lines of BG Sips or Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and it looks ideal for this yeast so... for 80 litres:- 12kg of Maris Otter 1kg of...

    Homebrewing helps you lose weight!

I vowed to do this for 2014...I lasted until beginning of Feb when my Dad fell ill and I did not get the time to brew..I can concur that weight loss does happen...I lost about 10lb in weight, but some of this I attribute to the stresses of Dads illness and the funeral etc. I'm back...

    Flash Chillers

I went for the chiller route rather than a fridge. Easier and more flexible in that you could have a big fermenter. I currently have a maxi300...Modded with a STC-1000 and an under soil heating strip will keep my biggest fermenter stable to within 1 degree and will chill the lot down to under...
