    UK National Homebrew Competition

i'd maybe knock it down to 6-8g/L. I know the "big boys" seem to get away with stupid dry hop levels, but if I go above 8, i get some grassiness. There are diminishing returns above that amount anyhow.

    Welsh National Comp 2018

update on this: the brewday at Mad Dog took place earlier in the year. I learned a lot. Including I won't be giving up the day job to go pro, cause it was 5 days till my back recovered. It's hard work! anyhow the finished product, "Dippy Kitty" is now available in bottles in South Wales and the...

    UK National Homebrew Competition

It was the highest scoring beer I judged that day. Maybe the highest score i've ever given a beer, in 5 comps i've judged. Seriously, it was brilliant. I ticked the "send me the recipe" box, lol. Not sure what the highest was on the day, but this would have been fairly close to this. Bear in...

I'm not sure how long they lasted in the BOS. I think they were eliminated fairly quickly TBH. I could not have stood the tension if I was watching! I was elsewhere with a beer lol.

    Welsh National Comp 2018

If anyone downloaded their score sheets and they were hard to read, try again. Sarah rescanned them all, with different settings. contrast etc much better now. Dan - some good scores there. Sorry for beating you by a point on the IPA category..... Standard was very good this year. From the...

    Welsh National Homebrew Competition 2017

yeah, I think that's the right call. where possible, enter to a style. pretty much all beers should be able to be made to fit somewhere other than mixed/experimental. and like I said, it may work in your favour if it stands out a little from the norm. now you may get a judge who judges every...

    Welsh National Homebrew Competition 2017

Dan - you totally should be able to edit entry, looks like it's not working. i'll contact the organiser now. they update this website software each year, and looks like there are a few bugs. Mick - mixed styles. What I would say, it does it really need a mixed style? in my experience the mixed...

    Blackberry stout recipes recommendations

I did a blackberry porter (all grain) worked out really well. I froze the blackberries first. I used 2.5 KG in a 20L batch. I let the beer ferment for 3 days and then racked onto the thawed blackberries in secondary.

    Welsh National Homebrew Competition 2017

sorry mate, looks like the Mad Dog prize was for best IPA, not best US Pale. My mistake. But looks like you won some Blichmann stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/WelshNationalHomebrewCompetition/permalink/708950332621673/ Notice of all the prizes has been posted on the Facebook group...

    Bypass fridge thermostat

I had a fridge that got down to 0c without bypassing. but my newer (larger) one only got down to 5 or 6c. So I bypassed the thermostat, and hey presto, can get down to below freezing now. take it to bits. follow the wires to work out which did what, and connect em together. worked for me, and...

    Welsh National Homebrew Competition 2017

28 is still a very good score. if that was only comment, then at least you know you can fix for next time! and fact you knew what was wrong with it before hand, is a good thing! it's annoying when the batch you brew for the comp is not your best one, happened to me this year as well. glad you...

    Welsh National Homebrew Competition 2017

Tiny Rebel brewery are having their official opening this day, too. This is a mixed blessing. Good news, lots of extra publicity for the comp and raising the profile of homebrewing. And Craig Charles is there as a DJ! Bad news, tickets sold out in under an hour, and entry to the brewery this day...
