    HLT Controller

I can see one advantage over an stc1000, the timer. If you regularly use a timer to switch on an HLT then this would do double work. I am quite tempted but already have an stc1000 on my HLT. Maybe later in the year if I have any spare cash. :nono:

    Oxi Clean

Its a learning curve, but yeast is good for ages. I tend to rehydrate when I start my boil, 2+ hours later it is pitched in to the FV after my wort has cooled. (I am an All Grain brewer so take a bit longer than the kits) Next time you know better.

    Oxi Clean

I've been using Wiz oxy-clean for several years now. (<£1 from Home Bargains) I use ONE (1) scoop per full vessel (FV/boiler/mt etc) and let it soak for a couple of hours in hot water. I then rinse again in hot water and then before use (FV/etc) I sanatize with star-san that I keep in a 5l...

The 'end' of Widows XP - New PC time!

Well if you are stuck on M$. The a few of the recycle sites, they buy "surplus" stock and sell it cheaply. I got a nice Levenoo laptop with a whole 50 HOURS off use on it (from the info from the hdd), for £65. There is one that deals in Dell hardware as well. You still need to BUY a new copy...

The 'end' of Widows XP - New PC time!

BTW The machine I use daily is a Dell Dimension 9200, I got it from freecycle several years ago "as it was too slow!" New hdd and 4Gb of ram, new graphics card (NV GT610 fanless) and I recently added a faster processor (2.66Ghz from 2.33 so not much difference :o ) This is used for audio...

The 'end' of Widows XP - New PC time!

Depends on what you use the pc's for really. If you are tied to a particular app then sticking with M$ is probably what you want to do. However if you only surf/email/play music then any of the Linux distro's will do so for you with no need to update your pc. I have been using Linux for 7+...

First fridge fermenter- need a heat source?

I used to use a 100W bulb in my fermenting cupboard with a homebuilt temp sensor to turn it on/off. But in a fridge with the danger of overflowing yeast it is better to have something that is water proof - hence the tubular heaters.

    Good to see you back

This "openness" (or lack of it) from the admin is NOT a good thing. Why did we have so much downtime, I saw MYSQL messages the first day but not the last time. A simple post saying we are having issues, or we hope they are now fixed would go a long way to making this a better HOSTED forum now.
