    What did you brew today?

Brewed the U Fleku Czech dark lager clone today for the second time. Surprised myself with how nice it was and fortunately kept the yeast from the first one a few weeks ago. Went absolutely bonkers in the starter so hopefully it’ll blow the top off the brew fridge. Bit of trial and error with...

WLP775 Turbo Cider let down :(

Thanks for the tips - I shall try again with different yeast! I will certainly mention the WLP775 yeast to the supplier that I bought it from. I've used several Ale yeasts and Lager yeasts over and over again without issue so I know what I'm doing with them. Perhaps it was a duff batch after all.

WLP775 Turbo Cider let down :(

Maybe I'll try a dry yeast then! Which one do you find works best? I liked the idea of the appley flavour of the WLP775.

WLP775 Turbo Cider let down :(

Excitedly tried my first turbo cider the other day but it was a total disaster. Inspired by Lakeybloke on YouTube, I bought my Waitrose apple juice and WLP775, made a starter (which wasn't very active but produced a fair bit of yeast), and chucked it all in to a fermenter. It went into my...

    Controlling 12v pumps

Thanks Fil. I do like gadgets so I'll give it a go if I don't have any luck with my extra tap.

    Controlling 12v pumps

Simple as that! Thanks, I'll give it a go.

    Controlling 12v pumps

Hi, I have just completed my first brew in my formerly gravity fed, now supercharged garage brewery which now includes 2x 12v mini pumps to distribute sparge water into the mash tun and sweet wort into the boiler during the sparge. I thought I could control the flow of the liquid by...

    U Fleku beer

Glad to hear it! I'm going to shy away from a decoction mash but I'll do my best with what I've got and hope for similar results. No one I'm going to give it to has ever been to U Fleku so I can pass it off as the real deal no matter what it comes out like!:thumb:

    U Fleku beer

Have you had any joy with this one? Does it look U-Fleku-esque? Looking at having a go with this sometime soon so would be interested to hear how you've got on so far.

How to reduce a 9.4% beer to something drinkable?

Haha cheers! I'll see how the originals turn out after a generous conditioning in the back of the garage. If I can feel my liver pulsating through my abdomen I'll add a few litres of lemonade for good measure just to be on the safe side!! Should have made a small beer from the leftovers of...

How to reduce a 9.4% beer to something drinkable?

Thanks for the suggestions! I originally brewed it for my daughter's christening (!) so I could do with getting it in a bottle and giving it some time rather than brewing up another SMASH to dilute it. I think as an experiment I'll bottle some as is, dilute the rest down to a drinkable state...

How to reduce a 9.4% beer to something drinkable?

Hi, I'm only a few batches in to all-grain and I've been experimenting with reusing yeast (having botched together a stir plate) and trying to fine-tune my kit. Made a "Hop Ottin' IPA" from Clone Brews which should have an OG of 1.072 and FG of 1.017. Nice little number. Loads of hops...

    Hi From Alsager

Hi Gaz. Just outside Nantwich myself and hoping to build a kegerator soon after picking up a few cornies at a good price. It would be good to hear how you get on with the build...

    Lavender sugar?

I'll try that right now! Maybe the beer isn't a great idea then, and it'll be best suited to a cake...

    Lavender sugar?

Happy new year everyone! I've been busy consuming the contents of those Christmas hampers you get but have a few things left over, one of which is lavender sugar. Sugar means beer, right? Has anyone tried brewing with lavender sugar? I might grab a kit and throw something together to see...

Any way of telling if I have under pitched yeast?

Thanks again Clibit for your top advice!

Any way of telling if I have under pitched yeast?

You're right, that is too warm. It's the Wyeast 2007. As I said I'm away now but I set it to the warmer end of the temperature for the yeast so I guess it must be around the 13 Celsius mark. I think I pitched it at 20 because I couldn't cool it down enough so it went into the fridge at 20 and...

Any way of telling if I have under pitched yeast?

Noted! I thought liquid yeast would be more "reliable" than dry yeast plus it gave me a chance to throw my hat into the ring and try something new. I recently built a temperature controlled brew fridge which is holding up well and doing the job nicely so I'm confident that the temperature side...

Any way of telling if I have under pitched yeast?

It worked out a shade under 20L once it went into the fermenter. I'm away for a few days now so I'll take a gravity reading when I get home. Will have been nearly 2 weeks by then I think. Is there a chance of a stuck fermentation then?
