    Free bottles -Colchester

Due to a reduction in production, I have about 120 bottles surplus to requirements. All the same, no labels, I bought them from a local brewery. Free to whoever can collect. They are boxed but if you have your own that would be great as I'd prefer to keep the boxes if possible.

    Don't want to brag but..........

76 bottles filled, all the cleaning up done and everything put away in just over an hour  And a lot of that time was waiting for the 2nd batch of beer to rack to the bottling bucket. There is a lot to be said for rinsing and cleaning bottles out after use each time. A quick rinse...

    Strange phenomenom

I've got 2 brews in the fridge currently sitting at 3 degrees (the fridge won't get them lower). They have been there since last Saturday. I took samples of each one earlier to see how clear they are and how the dryhopping is going, and noticed that brew 2 has gone a lot darker than before...

    Ferrari Emily replacement cup

I have the red Emily twin handle capper and it doesn't work as well as it used to. When I cap a bottle I have to wiggle the capper to get it to seal properly, and then rotate the bottle 90degrees to ensure it is properly sealed. If I don't do this there are no indentations on the cap at all...

    Bench cappers

Any bargainous bench cappers around that people know of? Found one on Geterbrewed for £18 plus p+p but it's out of stock. Contacted them and they are going to get back to me about whether they are getting more. Otherwise I'm looking at £30 which I know would be worth it but I like...

    Process check please

I have 2 brews in the brew fridge at the moment, they have finished but I added the dryhops on Monday. Going to give it till Saturday before cooling and then bottling the weekend after. My question is, on Saturday I will be getting the brews as cold as possible in the fridge, think it gets...

    Have I fudged my beer?

I use gelatin to fine my beer with good results. Just now I followed my usual procedure and added gelatin to my Youngs American Pale Ale, it's only after adding it I realised it wasn't actually gelatin but a vegetarian setting gel. So it basically does the same job as gelatin, but will it have...

    Replicating a hand drawn pint

Is it possible to replicate the creamy head and the other aspects of a nice hand drawn pub pint from a bottle of homebrew? Is it to do with how much you prime, or is it something that can only be done with kegs and a beer engine?

    40l Buffalo boiler wanted

Any buffalo boilers for sale? Would need posting or can collect from a reasonable distance from Colchester. Modded or unmodded, not fussy as will be able to mod myself. Thanks

    Couple of questions please

My last 2 brews, I have fined with gelatine. They have come out crystal clear but there seems to be a 'treacle' like flavour/smell to the beer. It's not enough to make it taste odd, but it is definitely there. The brew before I did not fine and there is no such flavour. Brew 1 was a pilsner...

    40ltr buffalo boiler

Selling my 40l buffalo boiler due to a change in circs. I have removed the thermal cutout as well as the fuse so it now gets a really good rolling boil. Thoroughly cleaned after each use, only made about 10 brews in it in total. I have also added a copper hop filter which works very well...

    Geterbrewed Craft-A-Beer Giveaway (Wheat)

Received my prize yesterday, thanks to all involved in getting it to me. Much the same as the other kits, mine came with 2 tins of wheat malt, hop flavourings, bitter orange peel, coriander seeds, 3 hop teabags (tettnang & challenger) and yeast (safbrew wb-06). The instructions are ok...

    Geterbrewed craft beer kit

Received my prize from the giveaway today and on opening looks really good. I I'll be making it at the weekend so will be posting a review then along with pics etc. Just a question, I got the wheat kit, and it came with some bitter orange and some coriander instructions seem generic and make...

Any cheap offers for copper pipe anywhere?

Looking at building myself an immersion chiller, been looking online and the cheapest I can find the copper tubing is about £20. Just wondered if anyone knew of anywhere that it might be cheaper. I don't mind buying online but the ones I've found the delivery charges make it more...

    Persistent nightmare

Some of you will have read my previous posts abouts my finished beer having a burnt match taste/smell, and I did narrow it down to underpitched yeast. Just sampled my latest batch made with gv12, rehydrated etc and yet again that taste it there. Although I'm not sure if it is the yeast as...

    Is my viability really 0%?

After a bit of a cockup with my geterbrewed order, I finally received my wyeast 2000 yesterday. Was going to start building a multi step starter for a planned lager, but after using yeastcalc and Mr. Malty, they both say my viability is 0%. This is the first time I've done this, the date...

    Too much headspace?

Planning on making a lager next week, but only want to make about 15-18l. Can I still ferment this in a normal 25l FV or is there too much headspace? The only alternative I have is to split it into a 10l bucket and a 5l Demi, which would mean scaling back to 15l only.

Is my brewery yeast too old?

I got some yeast from the local brewery near the end of July, it has been in the fridge since then and I have about 200ml. It has been stored under beer in a sealed jar. Will this be ok to use for my next brew this weekend? I have some DME that I can make a starter with, although I have...
