    Fermenting fridge shelve

I use a pc fan attached at 90° to the heat source to move the heat around and avoid a hot spot. Not sure if it helps but in my mind it does!

    Fermenting fridge shelve

I made a square frame out of timber, and I just rest a shelf on top of it. Inside the square frame I screwed a board and mounted my heater light socket to that, so the light sits within the frame, under the shelf (which has holes drilled in it to let the heat circulate).

    New guy

Welcome aboard! There are plenty of suppliers who sell extract kits with the correct amount of all the ingredients - might be a good place to start, then build up your own recipes once you have got used to the kits?

    Distilled Water

Distilling and deionisation are two separate processes, with the same aim. In fact deionised is purer than distilled. So two roads to the same destination perhaps?

    The old brewery debate

A big chunk of what you earn will end up in HMRC's pocket too - whatever you do don't leave them out of the equation! Have a look at SIBA's website for some ideas too, and ONBP's blog on here.

    Distilled Water

Or it could be your hydrometers are calibrated at a different temperature? What do they read at 15°c?

    Certainly is.

Halfords sell de-ionised water for topping up car batteries. Supermarkets sell it too.

    Sterilising bottles

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NebEtpoVA2k You most certainly can. I use starsan all the time. The above is about kegs, but it will give you an idea of how it is used, well, quite freely! 'Don't fear the foam....' If you get a bottling tree with the rinse adapter it is a doddle.

    Low ABV

To get 4.6% like the kit says, it would have needed to have got to 1.015. 1.037 gives 1.7%. I would duck and run for cover.....

Going to try out some chemistry....

My water is really soft, and I have never done a brew without adding gypsum, epsom salts etc. Maybe I should try one without.....
