    Best Cider Kit?

Any type of preservative should be avoided (sulphites/Sulfates, etc.) I find that the cheaper apple juice cartons tend to make better cider...

    Fermented hot sauce

I don't "boil" mine, just heat it to about 75C for about 5 minutes. Just enough to sterilise it, thus making it keep much longer. The only downside of this is that it kills off all of the lacto bacteria (the supposedly "gut friendly" bit.) It's not about gut health for me, it's the flavour!

    There may be trouble ahead...

Young's stocked a huge range of Muntons products. The main homebrew suppliers now are Bevie (once Ritchies) and Hambleton Bard. Wilko's on the way out too. The future doesn't look great for homebrew shops...

    There may be trouble ahead...

It seems that Muntons, for reasons unknown, have decided to stop supplying branded products to Young's. Muntons are probably the largest supplier of malt products to the UK homebrew market. It now looks like they are only supplying Bevie Handcraft, so obviously, Bevie will be able to name their...

    The Barge

Funnily enough, I also used to work in the Port of Dover in the 80's, and had many friends in both immigration, and customs and excise (as it was then). I can't say that I have ever heard of the sort of behaviour you describe in either of the professions. It was blatantly obvious that these...

    The Barge

I used to live in Dover. The migrants were the main reason for me and my family relocating to the southwest of the country. Had it been families fleeing oppression, I would have understood it. BUT, it was ALL young males - no wives, children, grandparents etc. Back then' (20+ years ago), my wife...

    Eggs 🥚

We've had a few ex-commercial hens in the past. They always lay really well, but don't seem to live as long as birds bought at POL...

    So who's growing chillies 2023?

Gusto Purple? Though it looks a bit bushy - mine are much taller and more "spindly"...

    Eggs 🥚

We have half a dozen chooks. They lay more than we can use, so often give them away to friends at work. Have always refused payment for them, as they are surplus to our needs. Get given the odd bottle of rum or bag of treats for the dogs as a "thank-you", which is nice...

    My post, Pink army

I really don't like people much at all. Much prefer the company of canines!

    One for the bikers

I've got two bikes, a Triumph Daytona 675, and a Suzuki GSXR600. Both good in their own ways, but totally different in characteristics. Never even thought about a car license, and I'm in my late 50's now! The old saying always used to be "If you ride a motorbike, you'll have had an accident, or...

    Emergency alert

Mother-in-law got into a bit of a fix with it. She was cooking a pork joint, following a recipe on her phone. When the alarm went off, she got a bit flustered and accidentally put the phone in the oven along with the pork. Surprisingly it still worked - albeit with a lot of crackling!
