    bulldog easter brew

In 35 years of brewing this is the only brew I've ever tipped out. I managed to drink...... 2 pints out of the kit over a year. My butty who's also brewed for donkeys years wouldn't even taken off my hands. 37 pint bottles all tipped down the drain. A waste of £25. Yuck!!

    On The Rocks cider kit

I followed the instructions and will chuck in the flavouring sachet in with the siphoned off cider in the other bin. Unnecessary potch lol. Bottling it I am. Apple this brew so might try blueberry next.

    On The Rocks cider kit

Hi. About to brew On The Rocks cider kit. It says to add the flavouring sachet to the brew after it's been transferred to another bin after fermentation is complete. Question is, can this flavouring be added at the beginning of fermentation thus saving on transferring to another bin on...

    80s Brewmaker Filter

Hi. Have a Brewmaker Continuous Filter in immaculate condition but is as old as the arc. Been stored away in the attic since the 80s. Probably filtration as moved on heaps and bounds but why waste something which is perfectly sound. What I want to know are there pads still out there to fit it...

    Definition of "Hot".

Hi all. About to knock up a Black Rock Cider kit and on the instructions it states, "Dissolve contents of can and 1kg of brewing sugar in two litres of hot water". When I brew ale it always states to use boiling water, weather it's Woodford Wherry, Bulldog brews such as Evil Cat Imperial Red...

    bulldog easter brew

Thanks Sloth. Had everything ready yesterday, bin sterilised, etc and opened the box and couldn't find the chocolate flavouring lol. Phoned my hbs today and he opened some boxes to check it out for me. So the flavouring is in the wort. Hopefully knock the brew up tomorrow but have lost two...

    bulldog easter brew

Hi. Just bought this Easter Brew Chocolate Stout. According to the box it should have 4 ingredients, the malt, hops, yeast and chocolate flavouring. No chocolate flavouring in the box. I'm just wondering if the chocolate flavouring had already been added to the malt in the bag?

    Defining Mix?

Hi. Can anyone define for me what is "mix" in this instruction for Bad Cat Imperial Red. It doesn't say stir but mix. Would this be with a long mixing spoon as used in the initial mix at the making stage? Seen a guy making this brew on Youtube and he just poured the mixture and teabag in and...

    Excessive heat or not?

Hi. After advice here about what is excessive heat. I'm brewing in a room which is very cold. Just checked the thermometer and it's 12C. I've brewed 4 kits since December with a heat tray, which is in the photo but the brews have been slow compared to the average 4/6 days in different...

    Bad Cat Imperial Red

Hi. Was reading a thread a few days back which two home brewers were discussing their brewing of Bad Cat in detail with photos also. Can't find that thread anywhere now. Any help would be appreciated on locating this thread. Thanks.

    Yeast....... sprinkle or stir?

I posted my last comment same time as you Toffee. So you stir in the yeast what comes with Wherry? Notice you're from Cardiff. I'm up in the valleys.

    Yeast....... sprinkle or stir?

I'm about to make my second batch of Woodforde's Wherry and it says to sprinkle on top. Best to sprinkle on top then I guess.

    Yeast....... sprinkle or stir?

Hi again fellow brewers. Some kits say to sprinkle yeast on top and some kits say to stir in. Does stirring kick in the fermentation process quicker?

    Hydrometer Reading.

Didn't mix it up enough lol. I mixed it up as if mixing was going out of fashion. I did everything as the kit instructed meticulously. It's the first time I've used an hydrometer in my life. Think I'll stick to just brewing it the way I did in the past and will continue to do in the future...

    Hydrometer Reading.

Quick question before I go out and buy another fermenting bin. At present I have a 25 litre wide neck bin. Not saying it's tedious to take hydrometer readings but wouldn't it be hell of a lot easier just to buy a 25 litre bin (£5 cheaper also) with a snap on lid. That way I could just take...

    Hydrometer Reading.

I did add the sugar lol. 3lb in weight. Even weighed it out precisely. Once bitten twice shy so will knock cider on the head in the future. Stick to the ale me thinks.

    Hydrometer Reading.

It is a kit clibit. I do hope that my starting gravity reading was wrong cause 2.58% is no good to man or beast. It's a Wilko's cider apple kit. 4 to 6 days it said in the instructions. Day 15 today and it's down to 1010. Got it on an heat tray pad which does the biz fantasticly. Getting a...

    Hydrometer Reading.

Just a follow up on the hydrometer readings. I had a starting gravity of 1028/30 and a finishing gravity of 1008. With the formula for ABV which came with the instructions I'll have a calculation of 2.58%. The kit stated that I should end up with 5%. How can these figures be so far out. Am I...

    Wherry- my first brew.

Hi Monkeygirl. I tried my Woodfordes Wherry last night for the first time. It was 5 weeks and 4 days bottled has of yesterday. Found it a bit bitter but obviously a Bitter it is. I found it full bodied, nice stream of bubbles coming up, not much of an head though. I also got 40 pints which is...
