    Milds

My base recipe is based on SIMPLICITY MILD in Gordon Strong's Modern Homebrew Recipes book. Basically MO, crystal (8-10%) and chocolate (low single figures %) malts then bittering hops and yeast of choice. I'd recommend Gordon's book as it has some great, more complex mild recipes if you want...

    Chugger pumps

I notice most pumps come with a 'do not run dry warning' are they fiddly to prime or does gravity usually do the job? Might be a silly question but I'm always cautious when it comes to liquid ... devious stuff that never seems to want to go where I want to get it!

    Forum Raffle

Sounds good. I think you need an independent means of choosing the winner - like trying it into one of the lottery draws or perhaps there's some other online means. Also would be good to tie into to one or more of the online stores, getting them to chip in some freebies or extra discount. I'm...

    Flavour left over in FV

Definitely go for the brew master bucket with the thermowell rather than the simple brew bucket, it's worth the extra £20 for the well and the thermometer.

    One recipe four versions!

I'd play around with malts, with quantities of crystal, chocolate & amber for example. Assess the impact on body, colour, mouth feel and flavour.

Beersmith - Which is the best beer recipe program/designer thingy?

Got to be Brewsmith for me, it's one of those pieces of software that you keep on finding new features in and it makes you keep questioning your own setup & processes and so keeps you learning and evolving.

    Saison clarity for competitions

According to the BJMC style guide 'Clarity is poor to good, though haze is not unexpected in this type of unfiltered beer' Mine tends toward the good end of the scale.

    re-use glass bottles

I've love bottled Timothy Taylor Landlord, not only for the beer but also for how easily the labels come off, often just from the condensation on the bottles!

    What are you drinking tonight?

Couldn't agree more - the juggling act of home brewing, keeping some the good stuff until it's actually ready [emoji1]
