I've joined the hall of multi mash

I'm proud of myself (is that allowed) as I have got 3 brews on the go today and put 2 finished brews in kegs. Started at 09:30 with a double IPA and into FV at 13:00 then quick turn around with water raised to mash temp in the sparge water boiler and second brew mashing at 13:30. I did a 30...

    Yeast

Hi guys, I have 3 brews all stuck at 1.033 and all should go to around 1.020. I think this might be due to sugars created at over 68 degrees C mash temperature. I did 3 step mash with all 3 at 64, 66 and 68 C then mash out and sparge at 75 C. I got amazing efficiency all at around 80% but I now...

HBC American Double IPA kit 6.2%

I brewed this today using the Grainfather. I didn't follow the instructions for the mash due to using a Grainfather and put 17 litres of water in for the mash at 67 C for 1 hour then took a gamble and shut the pump off and took the top grain mesh off the top, raised the overflow pipe and added 1...

    Mash Ph

I did a brew on Sunday and the mash Ph was 5.2 is this ok? I'm sure I read somewhere it should be 5.4 I know it's only .2 lower but if I can add anything to improve the mash I would do it.

    Ingredients

Hi Guys, I use the Taptalk app on my android phone and it can be a right pain finding things. It was my birthday yesterday and with money in cards I am £70 richer so I'm going to by ingredients. I am planning on doing a blow your socks of IPA, an ale similar to old speckled hen or old...

    Here we go

First AG brew full steam ahead, well, full steam in about 40 minutes. Going to be a late night but kids were to hyper to do anything earlier.

    Keg CO2

I have bought Corny kegs but I'm not sure what CO2 cylinders I need. A shop near me has Mixed gas 70/30 for Ale and Stout, 60/40 for larger and cider. They have a food grade 100% CO2 but because the cylinders are meant for pubs does anyone know if a 70/30 mix will be ok because it could be a...

Water volume in a Grainfather. Help!

Can anyone give me some advice please? The AG kit instructions say to use 16 litres of water for the mash at 67c then after 1 hour add 5 litres of water at 80c and leave for 15 minutes. Because I'm using a Grainfather I'm sure this needs to be done by using 21 litres of water at 67c for 1 hour...

    Very impressed.

Just ramping up to a test boil and so far every temperature calibration check is spot on at 50, 55, 60, 65, 70 and 75C it's getting a bit too hot to hold my glass thermometer in now so I'll have to trust the temperature readings up to the boil. It's a gorgeous looking bit of kit too. .

    The Dark Side.

I've turned to the dark side buying a Grainfather to start AG brews so I set my profile pic accordingly.

    Time to decide

I now have enough money to buy a BrauMeister as I've received Christmas money I was promised. I now have a big dilemma though: as much as I love the full automation of the BrauMeister from start of the process to transferring to the FV, I like the Grainfather because of the supplied counterflow...

    Going overboard.

A series of events caused me to go wild today and the result was 2 tins of Coopers stout, 400 g of golden syrup, 200 g of black treacle 1.5 K of dark DME all mixed in to water with 26 litres total. I only pitched 1 pack of yeast and thankfully I have a Krausen collar so hopefully the foamy...

    Stout freak

I've just ordered another 2 Coopers stout kits, 6kg of dark DME, an AG stout kit (just to dip a toe in the dark side) and a 30 bottle wine kit. Hope it gets here by the weekend. I also need serious advice too - I have enough money to buy a Grainfather now and almost did last night but after...

    Very dry wine

Can anyone help me with the amount of sugar I need to add to 21 litres of wine with a gravity of 992 when I want it to be around 995.

    By eck

First time posting in the wine & cider area. I used to make my own wine from seasonal stuff found in the wild but that was 1 gallon batches. I've done a couple of 5 gallon wine kits and just checked FG and it's 0.991 from SG of 1.089. I think the wife will be happy with this one.

    Modified Coopers Stout

The Coopers Stout with extra dark DME, Lyles Golden syrup and treacle has blown my expectations out of the water. ABV 5.6% Poured a cheeky half pint after tasting the the sample and the body is great, the head is thick and creamy and it tastes amazing with a lovely malty aftertaste. If this...

    Never assume

All set to do a stout brew and a winebuddy sauvignon blanc. Everything ready to go with all equipment sanitised and just waiting for the delivery of dark spray malt and the Coopers stout kit for the beer and brewing sugar for the wine. The DPD deliveries are always without fail between 08:30 and...

    Additions to Coopers Stout kit

I am going to start a Coopers Stout kit on Friday but was wondering what I could add to make any improvement on the kit. I'm sure I saw a recipe for this somewhere but despite searching I can't find it. Any advice would be appreciated.

What would you give for this

I know the beer from a brew would probably go stale before you could drink it all but imagine this if the whole village chipped in to brew cheap but quality beer. :p...
