    TCP Taste again ....

I ofted do a rinse under my tap with bits and bobs and also I clean my FV with oxy, then rinse out with tap water.. drain the excess, star san and re-starsan on brewday.. I've never had issues with excess tap water causing TCP tastes - surely it can't be that?

Too much headroom, what to do?

I've done a couple of brews where my old boiler conked out and there was a mess everywhere and ended up with less than 17l in a 5 gallon youngs FV. Everything went fine :thumb:

I have to say Pittsy (another forum member) makes a fantastic hefeweizen. Best I've tasted by far. I'm sure he'll come along with some advice :thumb:

    Hydrometer readings

Hops only release their bittering qualities when boiling. So no worries about that. Some people say they get grassy tastes when their hops are in dry for too long. Personally I would leave them be but that's just me :thumb:

    Saf-04 and over-attenuation?

Are you doing overnight mashes? I got to 1.008 once but that was a rarity. Usually finish around 1.010 - 1.012 depending on the beer.. Edit... i do 90 minute mashes

    Bubbles going downwards!

I've never used 40 - S Elafas yeast before but from what I've rread it can be of benefit to the beer if pitched at the correct temperature upside down. Just make sure you store the bottles upside down when conditioning :thumb:

First brew, first ever post and suspected dormant yeast

Here's hoping the brew came down to a reasonable temperature below 24c during fermentation. But as pittsy says it's likely it may have even pushed 30c+ as the yeast does get excited during the initial stages and generates heat. Please say you were using some kind of temperature control

    AG#13 - Mrs Hefty (Hefeweizen)

Hi all, A good brewday, hit volumes and a a good OG. Only problem was I had a leak in my FV by the tap so had to quickly improvise and move the wort to another FV. Lost about half a litre so not too bad.. Brewing this for The Spring Thing competition. Hopefully it'll turn out well :) Here's...

    New Hoppy Youngs kits.

I believe these are not 3 kg kits. They contain dextrose to make up the extra fermentables. This is what my LHBS has told me anyhoo :thumb:

    Should I have dry hopped??

Good advice guys.. I've dry hopped every APA I've done so far ... but may be i should leave it with this one. The others I didn't use anywhere near that amount of hops in the previous ones. Be good to see the difference. This is for the spring thing comp so I don't want to start faffing with it...
