    The Coronavirus thread.

Sorry Guys, but that is just appalling racism. And it gets likes. I'm obviously in the wrong forum. Bye.

    The Coronavirus thread.

Dr Anthony Costello, Professor of Global Health, University College London, Channel 4 news tonight. He's unclear from government briefings as to whether we are following a delay policy to bring in herd immunity without overwhelming the NHS or whether it's a suppress policy. If the latter we have...

    The Coronavirus thread.

Scientists provide the science, politicians provide the policy. I have a degree from Imperial College, it's where I learnt that scientists make mistakes. I singled out Cummings because of his obnoxious views but if I'm wrong about his advice to ministers then I apologise. Edited to say I see...

and not listened to Cummings about herd immunity. Anyone heard anything of Cummings since he ran out of Downing Street?

Hahaha. That's the one advantage of having had it, you have some immunity. Sorry to hear about your wife and hope she recovers quickly. Is there anything you found helped you like paracetamol, etc?

Busy times from home brew shops

The two local farms/maltsters I use have shut their gates and the one that also does bread flour is in meltdown. The other one has got a sack on next day delivery no probs. So if anyone is looking for pale malt Alison at Products — Crafty Maltsters will supply 25kg for £32.52 delivered by...

Harvey Weinstein guilty over sexual assaults

Basically the rich and the powerful are not above the law, a good result for everybody. Shame he wasn't found guilty of all charges.

    Which Kit to Choose?

I would agree with darrelim. I've settled on Kenridge Classic as a good compromise between price and quality but whereas the Chardonnay is really good the reds disappoint and are nothing to be proud of.

    Trub Question

After the mash I clean the bag, boil it and fit it over the fermenter. I pour the wort through it to filter it and hang the bag up over the fermenter for a few minutes to drain and recover as much as possible.

    Plastic bottles

No worries Terry, I'm glad they work for you. The science is loosely described here. I think the trapped oxygen is probably removed by the yeast as it consumes the priming sugar and so I didn't see a difference in the short term. After 3 months I could see a difference in a number of hoppy pale...

    Bottle washing

Rinse bottles after use. Store on bottle tree until dry and then box. Wash on bottle tree along with caps using 3 campden tablets in the warm water. Drain but don't rinse then fill. Apply new label on top of old.

    Plastic bottles

I'm also using ex tonic water pet bottles. I use mine for red wine too which can discolour them and also experience the haziness. I rinse them in warm water after use and wash them on a bottle tree with a solution made up from 3 campden tablets just before use. I drain but don't rinse again...

Marmalade: The Secret of Eternal Life.

I've added a jar, 454g, of Aldi's cheapest 27p marmalade to a few Wherry kits and also a wheat beer. Adds a subtle orange and bitter note which I like enough to repeat. The wheat beer also used a Hartley's orange jelly pack which added quite a bit of flavour and is also to my taste. I've done a...

Duvel Triple hop, not for me thanks

Also went on the Drygate tour last year and really enjoyed it. They were growing hops behind the brewery which was of interest since I'm trying to grow them too. Want a trip to WEST next. Also really rate Caesar Augustus. Thought I'd bought a lager by mistake but eventually tried it and my eyes...

Anyone got the Klarstein Maischfest? Is it any good?

I've just got a 25l one, used it twice so far. Well made, small footprint so tall, great tap, easy to clean and good value at the £80 I paid for it. I also use a plastic secondary that I can see into for bottling from.

Where did the braided hose come from?

    Electric kettle or stock pot?

Klarstein stuff is available on Amazon. I've got the 25 litre fermenter which is excellent. Just check how the prices vary here to be sure you're not getting skinned.

    Wine kit value for money

I've been doing kits for years and settled on Kenridge Classic as a good compromise between quality and price. The Chardonnay is superb but the reds - I agree with the previous comments.
