    Cold Fermentation (10c)

I don't think it will do any thing I ferment cider in my conservatory that gets cold at night but warms up in the day. That takes about a month or so to ferment but I think if your temperatures stay that low all the time nothing will happen at all most yeasts are happy at 18 to 21c. Cheers Graham.

    Grape Juice Concentrate

I think most people just use the litre cartons the stuff from Morison's says its not made from concentrate,I believe 1 litre of this is the same as the small tin of the concentrate. you payes your money you make your choice. I made 5 gallons of white wine using 14 litres of this juice a dozen...

    TC in kegs!

If you want to do this a cornelius keg is the only way to go,don't wast your time with plastic kegs as you cant get enough pressure in them to make your cider sparkle.see link viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1219&start=0 Thanks Graham.

    fermentation vessels

I used a 25 litre white plastic polythene drum to carry spare water and antifreeze in, to top up my old land rover,I washed it out with a high pressure steam cleaner and flushed it about 10 times. Now every time I take the rad cap off the land rover its like switching on an artificial snow...

    Apples for Cider?

A third cookers to 2 thirds eaters seem to be the golden rule, otherwise it comes out too acidic to drink.I have made mine sticking to this rule for the past couple of years and its been very nice. I too have an orchard full of bramley cookers its been a right pain getting enough eaters. Cheers...

    Methanol

My thoughts too, I believe the Japanese use a fungus to convert rice starch to sugar to make sarky.I'm still interested in how to avoid making methanol though for the obvious health reasons. Cheers Graham.

    Methanol

I read on a recent post that fermenting starch produces methanol which is obviously poisonous and causes things such as blindness. Is this true that fermenting starch produces methanol if so should potato's be avoided, what other fruits etc could lead to this. Has anyone got any thoughts or...

    Plastic Beer Keg

Hi up until recently I have always bottled my beers, due to the time involved with this I have bought couple of standard 25 litre beer kegs with bottom taps. I have just conditioned my second brew and Ive got to say I'm not impressed with the taste. When I attempt to draw off some of the beer I...

    Heated water bath

I have read somewhere about keeping fermenters in a heated water bath, the bath is heated with a aquarium heater and i assume circulated by a small pump. I'm certain Moley has mentioned this on a post somewhere. I think this is a really good idea at the moment i have individual heaters inside...

    My first Turbo Cider

I would have thought a 1kg of sugar and a jar 1lb are of honey (400 +g) would have a higher SG than that even without the apple juice this would have an SG of 1120 that's 16% alcoholle add the apple sugars to this and the hydrometer would be off the scale, got to be looking at 19% not sure about...
