Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Hi, I keep seeing lowicz syrups being mentioned in lots of threads, but can't seem to find a definate answer on how to use them? If I'm using 1L of RGJ (or WGJ if I can get any), how much of the bottle should I use? Half? A quarter? And will 1L of GJ + some lowicz make a nice WOW, or is do I...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

My Sainsbury's always has it in the non-chilled section (they may do a chilled one too) and it's quite cheap.

    The non 'WOW ' factor.

I'd say anything with watermelon. I did a RGJ + Watermelon, and couldn't drink it. I also don't think I'll ever use banana again in any recipe. I did a RGJ + Strawberry & Banana (although I did still drink that one:oops:).

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

From suggestions on here, I've tried 1L WGJ + 1L Apple & Mango, and it's lovely. Another one I like, is 1L WGJ + 2/3 bottle of Granini Peach juice. But I'm still a beginner compared to a lot of others on here...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I've made a WOW with: 2L White Grape & Peach Sainsbury Fresh (not 100% juice) 1L Eng Apple & William Pear Sainsbury Fresh (100% juice) I didn't add any pectolase, because I didn't have any at that point. It fermented like crazy, and had a 1 inch crust on it, and I've now racked into another DJ...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Thanks for all the help so far. So, putting it all together, does this sound like a reasonable (simplified) summary of the process? 1) Add juice, sugar and water as per recipe to shoulder of DJ1 2) Add tannin, pectolase, glycerine, yeast and nutrients 3) Wait until bubbling stops then wait a...

Is it OK to use tap water in the initial mix as well as for topping up? Just that I've seen a few mentions of boiled/filtered water? What sort of problems, if any, would you get from using tap water?

Brilliant, thanks - I'll know what I'm doing on the next one! So, if I'm adding a campden tablet before bottling, how long would I need to wait before doing the bottling? And would I just tip the powder in, or does it need mixing?

After it had finished fermenting, I syphoned it into another DJ, but haven't added anything to it so far.

Hi, I've got a couple of WOW's that are ready for bottling. A lot of sites seem to suggest that it's a good idea to add a Campden tablet before bottling. I haven't added any at all yet, as I've only just managed to get hold of some. Do you think I should add one before bottling, as if so, how...

Are screw top wine bottle tops OK to re-use?

Thanks very much everyone. That's brilliant news, as I have a green recycle box full of them! I wasn't intending to age my wine in them, so that won't be a problem. And I'll bear in mind that it's probably best not to use them too many times. Thanks again.

Are screw top wine bottle tops OK to re-use?

Hi, Most of the wine I buy from the supermarket comes with a screw top, as opposed to a cork (I buy the really expensive stuff :)). If I'm re-using these bottles for my home brew (wine), can I just put the screw tops back on, or will I need to put corks in there? Thanks
