    Wine bottle labels?

Thanks for the info. I have searched online but struggled to find anything I liked. I think doing it myself is the way to go.

How to degas wine with a home made degassing wand

Yes mine was adjusted from the first attempt to the one I posted for that very reason. Need to get it in to DJ.

    Wine bottle labels?

I am thinking ahead slightly but when I bottle my first brews nearer Christmas I am planning on going all out and getting the shrink wrap foil tops and decent labels to make them look presentable. Does anyone know of any on-line wine label printers that will produce labels on a small scale...

How to degas wine with a home made degassing wand

My Beaverdale Merlot kit seems to be taking forever to degass. Been shaking the DJ at regular intervals all day yesterday and today and it still looks just as full of CO2 as when I started. So, here is my attempt at the D.I.Y. whip. :)

    Second Rack Sediment question.

Hi all. My first ever WOW (spiced apple) has gone great so far. Had a quick taste yesterday when I racked off to DJ and was pleasantly surprised. Quite a pleasant rosè as it is. I Added campden tablet, de-gassed and added spice blend as per the recipe. (cinnamon stick, cloves, fresh ginger...

Edited this as I have just realised it's cider not wine lol.

6 Days in to my first brew.

Hi all. I started a Beaverdale Merlot and a fruit WOW 6 days ago and they have been fermenting nicely at a steady 22 degrees. Look here if you want to see the details: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=55840 My Merlot SG was 1.088 and the fruit wine was 1.102. (with a total...

    Beaverdale Tweaks

From what I understand. Head space, or air above your wine is fine during fermentation as the CO2 produced will fill the space and protect the wine. If the wine is not fermenting and so not producing CO2, prolonged exposure to the air can oxydise your wine. Which is the excuse I give the...

Should something be happening by now?

The instructions in the Beaverdale Melrot I have say that primary fermentation will take 15-20 days. I will probably take a hydro reading in a week to see how its getting on. I am not expecting the WOW I am doing to be ready to rack for at least 2-3 weeks either with an SG of 1.102. You...

    Rehydrating dry yeast.

I, like most other, can't get white grape juice anywhere but no trouble with the red. Have seen it in my local Morrisons, Asda, and Tesco. This is the one I am using: http://groceries.asda.com/product/grapes-berries/asda-red-grape-juice/910000267188

Should something be happening by now?

Ok great, thanks for the info. I am pleased to report there is a little foam visible now creeping up the sides. More so in the kit than the WOW but still, its certainly doing something.

Should something be happening by now?

The Beaverdale kit had its own yeast so I used that. Not sure what type, it was just labelled "red wine yeast". I did wonder about the amount of air space. I have two 1 gal demijohns also that I planned to rack off into after primary fermentation. Does the headspace effect fermentation then...

Should something be happening by now?

Hi all. I started my first ever wine brews yesterday. A Beaverdale Merlot kit and Ohbears spiced apple wine WOW. It has been 22 hours since I pitched the yeast and there has been no activity in either one as yet. I know it can take up to 36 hours for fermentation to start from what I have read...

Newbie question about the two piece airlock.

Great thanks all. Got it sorted now. :)

Newbie question about the two piece airlock.

Hi all. This may be a stupid question but I'm having trouble working out how the small two piece airlock works. I have half filled it with water and put the top section on. Is the top section supposed to be tightly fitted? If so, how will the CO2 escape? If its just loosly placed on, then the...

Would this be ok for a WOW?

Thanks for the advice. Think I will make a trip to Asda tomorrow and see what they have. Try and get a higher juice %.

Would this be ok for a WOW?

Hi, I am hoping to start a pomegranate Wow this afternoon. (my first one) The only juice my local supermarket carries is this: Ingredients: Water, Pomegranate Juice from concentrate (18%), Sugar, Acid (Citric Acid), Colour (anthocyanins), Flavourings. Total sugar content is 85g per ltr...

    Hydrometer 1010 Beaverdale

I have just bought the Beaverdale Merlot 4.5L kit, intending to start tomorrow. The instructions I have say to rack off at between .990 - .996. Which Beaverdale is it? (as in what grape?)
