Which kit to modify to a Ginger beer?

Hey everyone Most of my home brewing revolves around fruit wines and the occasional cheap beer kit from Wilkos. I don't have the space, equipment and frankly the patience to make a beer from scratch. I was bought a bottle of Lidl brand Grizzly Ginger last week and when I tried it was pretty...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Anyone know of any Supermarket chains with a ready supply of white grape juice? Lidl is my usual go to but they haven't a supply at the moment. Tried Co op and Asda and they were dry too. Anyone got any advice? I have a lot of white to prep for summer and don't want to go pure apple...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Like chippy says, there can be a number of reasons for cloudy wine and not all are drinkable. Using pectolase to avoid one reason will make you think twice about chugging it. May save you a belly ache.

Yeah, didn't work as well as expected. I would advise making a wg and apple with normal sugar and sweeten with honey. It offers a better contrast between the sweet and dry and the honey flavour comes through without being too sickly. (Edit) Sorry... Using phone instead of lap top. This...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I thought filtering was the answer to everything then realised what Chippy said about losing flavour. Not horrendously so in my experience, but enough for ME to notice the difference. Time is traditionally regarded as the best method, but we all know that no one is leaving a 3 quid demijohn of...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Finished my red grape and apple which wasn't very "red" when it was done, and sweetened with a dilution of 50g of Lidl's clear honey on the final top up. I have ended up with a quite surprising "Beggar's Mead" which will be a major project for next year when I do my Fantasy Tavern Event...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

For beer I now use brewing sugar and/or malt when in the olden days I used cheap granulated sugar, and it inevitably had a yacky saccharin taste like their was a **** artificial sweetener in there. But with WOW I use the 39p a kilo from LIDL and it works brilliantly. Never tried using...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

ALDI WGJ is usually about 85p a litre. Our local LIDL has stopped stocking their white, which (like the Red) is usually 99p (sometimes 95p) a litre. I'm going to have to find an alternative to my LIDL supplies, so I will see if the local ALDI are up to it, or just use Red till I find...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Most pubs I know are happy to hand out old bottles. I'm lucky in that I live next door to a very friendly pub who let me scavenge as many bottles as I like from their recycling bins. Most of the pubs round our neck of the woods are happy to let folk skip dive for empties. I also live next door...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Not sure what sort of grapes Tesco are using in their White Grape Juice at the moment... Perhaps it's some secret magic grape hidden for centuries by French Monks? But I think I'll be sticking to Lidl and Aldi for now...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

With demijohns it's usually a safer bet to start with less fluid than you intend to bottle as you can add more later, like the guys say either water or juice depending on how you like the taste. There is some old adage about how you can add sweetness to a wine but it's a bugger to take it...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Put simply, one of the uses in recipes is to kill bacteria. Some recipes will suggest you use a campden tablet in the juice for 24 hours before adding yeast to kill the micro organisms left in the juice, but with a WOW that's not really necessary. Again at the end, before bottling, they help...

What did you use for the source juice in the Blackcurrant? I've tried a few times to find an affordable 100% blackcurrant juice, but it seems to be foreign import at over a tenner a litre...

    Chilli Wine Rejuvenation

It has surprised me how nice a drink it is. I'm going to have to behave, or there'll be none left for my test subjects, sorry... "guests" this weekend. I'm going to start another DJ this weekend so I've got some for mulling over Christmas.

Whats the most Random wine you have made?

In a week or two I'll be clearing out the freezer of all the half empty bags of frozen fruit my wife keeps buying to make bloody "smoothies". This is an annual event to make space for the Christmas food, and it will all get mashed up in the bin and brewed down to whatever volume it seems best to...

    Lidl's red grape juice wine

There are a lot of discussions going on on here about the variations on Supermarket wines and "WOW" (Wurzel's Orange Wine") that will offer great advice on mixing up and experimenting with supermarket bought fruit juices. Until I first started messing about with these I was pretty much a "Kit...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

Yep, absolutely... If you prefer to use 1L at a time, I know there's not a world of difference cost wise, but our local Lidl do 1L RGJ at 99p and that is the normal price. Lidl also do a Raspberry/Cranberry mix which goes nicely with the RGJ for 59p a Litre, and that's 100% juice too. (1kg...

    Chilli Wine Rejuvenation

Two days ago I realised that the heat overpowered the taste, and that it needed something doing to it... It was basically "done" and ready to bottle, but too hot to taste... which sort of misses the point. I took 1/2 Litre and split into 5 100ml samples and dripped in a few alternatives...

Supermarket Juice Wine How To guide and Recipes.

I'm currently trying a double strength version of this, (not alcohol wise, but juice wise) to see if there is any notable difference... 2L each of the respective juices, and a reduction of 200g of sugar as that just about offsets the natural sugar in the juice. (It's the one I did with too...
