Every night shift has a silver lining.

The double hop monster IPA was just being put on as I arrived and with a name like that it needs to deliver.... but it didn't. I would like to try it again as this didn't have a lot of condition and it just seemed fairly muddled. At the other end of the scale the Hilden Nut Brown was in good...

Every night shift has a silver lining.

Can you not see a beer festival program lying around anywhere? Gives the beers in the festival with brief tasting notes, hops used, information about the international brewers, etc. See http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/static/pdfs/admin-generated/podium/ale-festival-2013-247.pdf?t=1396269821 for...

I'm just jealous 'cos I gotta wait at least another hour to get out to my local lunchtime 'spoons and see what they have on

Every night shift has a silver lining.

Hops are given as Motueka, Pacifica and Southern Cross in the program notes. 6.5% beer at 10am

    Oxi Clean

Why did you chuck the yeast? Keep it covered and it would have been fine by the time the wort cools.

    Craft Beer or crafty labeling?

I'm not convinced Hock was unhopped. Last time I looked for a recipe I found it was hopped with Target.

    Beer Duty down by 1p

Better news than a rise in duty, will it stop prices rising in pubs...probably not. Remember that a small brewery benefitting from the reduced rate of duty will only see 50% of the cut, so 36p saved on a firkin.

OMG water what a mine field

Above and beyond campden, water treatment is not necessary for kit brewing. When you go all grain (and you should ;)) then you might want to look further :thumb:

    Temp control on large fermentators

Just brewed a 4 barrel batch and saw the temperature dip down below 17c towards the end of the fermentation so just put a little fan heater pointing at the bottom of the FV to keep the temperature up. Seems to work :)

Are my clear bottles skunking my beer?

From CAMRA's Beer Magazine Autumn 2012, an article by James McCrorie, a founder of the CBA (Craft Brewing Association): " For more than 100 years, brewers have known that exposing beer to light, particularly in the range of 350-500 nanometres, approaching (and in) the ultraviolet spectrum of...

Amber Malt - Crisp or Fawcett's?

The "Can You Brew It" show for 1845 can be found here. I seem to remember in the broadcast Keeling says it's important to use Simpson's Amber if you going to try to clone 1845. I have not found a supplier of Simpson's Amber amongst the HomeBrew suppliers so if you find one be sure to mention...

    is AG worth the expense?

Depends where you're buying your commercial beer as well. If it's a pub that can't keep cask ale in good nick or doesn't have the turnover to shift a cask in three days or so then you might be drinking off beer, in which case a well made kit would be better, no doubt. I don't believe a kit will...

i read that bottle bombs where scary....

You must not use wine bottles for beer for exactly this reason. They are not designed to withstand the pressure and will burst.
