Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Hi Steve, I have just completed 2 brews, an Irish Red Ale, one with untreated Malvern Spring Water and the other with treated Malvern Spring Water. I collected the water, from the highest Malvern spring, at the same time and then I tested using the kits and had the following: Alkalinity...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Thanks Steve for updating the Salifert kits how with the photos that has helped a lot and now I know for sure I messed up reading the thin syringes but I won't next time :thumb: Also thanks again for the info on English styles, think I would prefer a fuller bodied beer so would lean towards...

Beginners Guide to Water Treatment (plus links to more advanced water treatment in post #1)

Hi Steve, Firstly thanks for the thread, I read the lot over a couple of nights whilst dining by myself in a Premier Inn...oh the rock and roll lifestyle I lead! So I wonder if you would check my numbers. I don't have any water analysis report because I collect my brew water from...

    Priming cold beer

It's an interesting point and one it would be good to get to the bottom of. I use the brewers friend priming calculator and get mixed results when cold crashing, this is what brewers friend says: * Temperature of Beer used for computing dissolved CO2: The beer you are about to package already...

Very first brew: St Pter's Ruby Red

So mine has been in the bottles 4 weeks now and are still cloudy :( The first bottle I tried after 3 weeks I poured in 2 halfs, the first half was clear but the second half wasn't. The second bottle I poured as a pint and it was flat with no head and very cloudy :( The wait continues!

Very first brew: St Pter's Ruby Red

Just over a week and it got down to 1014 so I bottled. Had the bottles in the warm for a few days but now in the cold. It's in the hands of the beer gods now [emoji3] I will make a test after 3 weeks in the bottles and see where it's at.

Very first brew: St Pter's Ruby Red

Thanks for the replies. I am going to give Star San a go as I do have a concern about the amount of water used to rinse 40 Bottles after sterilisation. I guess there is a cost to using the Star San as well but it sounds like a bottle of that would last quite a long time which may then out way...

    Virgin Brewer from Malvern

Hi All, Hope you all had a great Christmas. So during our annual Christmas family get together myself and 2 of my brothers agreed to each brew our own beers and then to arrange a little beer tasting event. One of the brothers has brewed before, albeit around 10 years ago, and my other...
